Kanini Kega Sends Direct Message to Uhuru Following Murathe and Kioni’s Removal

Kanini Kega, a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), extended an olive branch to former President Uhuru Kenyatta on July 10, following his confirmation as Jubilee Party Secretary General.

Kega stated in his office in Nairobi that they had no plans to expel the former party leader from the organization. Following the decision, the Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege assumed the position of party leader formerly held by Uhuru.

Kega further stated that he was willing to meet with his erstwhile party leader and that the officials would welcome him.

Nonetheless, he insisted that Uhuru, along with Jeremiah Kioni and David Murathe, who held the positions of secretary general and vice chairman, had been removed from their positions.

“We want to assure the erstwhile party leader that you are still a friend and a member of the party. “Our doors are open if you truly want to attend the party,” he stated.

In addition, Kega implored the team aligned with Uhuru not to appeal the ruling of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) and to instead consider the party’s unity.

The EALA lawmaker indicated that the new party leadership would introduce new initiatives before the National Delegates Conference (NDC) later this year.

However, Kega hinted that they would formally decide to abandon former prime minister Raila Odinga’s Kenya Azimio in favor of President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.

On the other hand, he refuted claims that Ruto paid them to divide Jubilee, stating that their decision to compete for control of the party was ideological.

“Allegations that the party is for sale are complete fabrications. We wish to assure our members that candidates will be presented for all positions. “From what we’ve observed, the party is well-liked,”

“We have been mistreated in Azimio, to tell the truth. We trust they will not appeal and will accept the court’s decision. If that occurs, we will be prepared,” Kega said.

The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) upheld Kanini Kega’s appointment as Secretary-General in a ruling issued hours before Kega’s speech. The expulsion of Kioni and Murathe from the party was also confirmed.

The faction of Uhuru commanded by Kioni has not yet stated the next steps.
