Kalonzo Threatens Protests If CJ Martha Koome Is Ousted
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned that if the plan to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome is implemented, there will be widespread demonstrations across the country.
Addressing a congregation at Muthara in Tigania East, Meru County, on Sunday, Kalonzo revealed that he is aware of a legal petition filed in court aiming to oust Koome. He asserted that this move is a direct assault on the Judiciary.
“We will protest from Maua, Seikuru, Meru, and all the way. We will not allow that, you cannot do that. That is the last bastion of our freedom,” said Kalonzo.
Maintaining that the integrity of parliament has been undermined, Kalonzo called on opposition lawmakers to challenge any proposal that appears to obstruct the desires of the Kenyan people.

Michael Kojo Otieno filed a petition to remove Koome, alleging that the Chief Justice did not adhere to legal procedures when appointing members to the tax appeal tribunal.
Kojo contends that the Chief Justice lacked transparency and thoroughness, asserting that she showed bias against individuals who had submitted applications for board membership.
“While appointing persons to serve at the tax appeal tribunal, the judge failed to be honest in the execution of powers conferred to her by the Tax Appeal Tribunal Act based on powers conferred to the judge as a judicial officer…,” reads the petition in part.
“The actions of the chief justice in appointing members more than the stipulated requirement violated section 4b of the Tax Appeal Tribunal Act.”
