Kalonzo Slams Kindiki for Labeling Gen Z Protesters as Criminals

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka criticized Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki on Friday for his controversial comments about Gen Z protesters.

Speaking at a funeral in Machakos County, Kalonzo accused Kindiki of labeling the Gen Z protesters as criminals during his vetting session at the National Assembly.

The Azimio principal condemned Kindiki’s remarks, arguing that the young protesters were merely seeking government accountability.

Kalonzo stated that the youths’ grievances stem from Kindiki’s nomination to the cabinet, as he was the same person who authorized their shooting during the protests.

“He faced the vetting committee and branded them criminals. He’s calling our children criminals, accusing them of invading parliament,” Kalonzo added.

Kalonzo also suggested that despite the rigorous vetting, the cabinet nominees would still be approved due to political bias.

“Even with such derogatory remarks, he will still be confirmed as a CS because he has the support of the majority of MPs,” Kalonzo claimed.

“Our stance is that we lack confidence in Ruto’s nominees due to their controversial pasts. However, we appreciate that government corruption has been curbed, thanks to the efforts of Gen Zs.”

Kalonzo also cautioned governors, warning them that the youths are closely monitoring their expenditures. “The youths will hold you accountable for your spending,” Kalonzo asserted.

Kalonzo’s comments followed Kindiki’s appearance before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments for vetting two days earlier.

Kindiki defended the police’s actions during the protests, stating that they did their best to maintain order. He said that it is now up to the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to address any officers who exceeded their authority.

“The police performed their duties, and if any officers overstepped, it is up to IPOA and other accountability bodies to resolve the issue,” Kindiki stated.
