Kalonzo Musyoka Breaks Silence: Confirms UK Trip Amid Rally Absence

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka revealed on Thursday, June 29. That he was on a trip to the United Kingdom in response to growing rumors regarding his whereabouts. After missing the Azimio rally held at Kamukunji grounds on Tuesday, June 28.

Kalonzo indicated in a statement that he met with representatives of the Anglican Church in London, led by Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The former vice president disclosed that the meeting’s primary topic was the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

In expressing his reflections on the ongoing conflict, he cited Matthew 5:9, a biblical verse containing a beatitude about peacemakers.

Together with the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Special Representative on the conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa, Bishop Precious Okomu, we spent time discussing several issues of international significance, including the South Sudan conflict.

“Our collective prayer is that peace will prevail in our region forever,” he said.

Sammy Wainaina, the former Provost of All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, was among those present at the meeting.

During his trip to London, Kalonzo was accompanied by his son, Kennedy Musyoka, who is also a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

However, the principal of Azimio did not disclose their exact departure date. The date of their return was also unknown.

Kalonzo was not present at the rally in Kamukunji where former Prime Minister Raila Odinga announced new measures against President William Ruto.

Allies indicated that Kalonzo was unavailable throughout the event. Wiper Party members, however, expressed support for Raila’s directive.

Tax boycotts, civil disobedience, and carpooling were among the measures announced by Azimio to protest the Finance Act of 2023, which introduced a slew of unpopular taxes.
