Kalonzo Addresses Suluhu Talks Exclusion

He notified the parliamentary committee that the indefinite postponement of the reopening of the Somalia border, which had been shut since 2011, was necessary due to the prevailing security circumstances.

In a media interview, Kalonzo affirmed that Raila did have a meeting with Suluhu without his Azimio group present. However, Kalonzo clarified that Raila kept them updated on all the progress and happenings regarding the meeting.

The ex-Vice President clarified that President Suluhu’s schedule involved holding discussions with Raila and President William Ruto before engaging with other leaders.

“Raila invited Karua and I plus other top Azimio leaders for lunch. During that time, he told us that he had communicated with the Tanzanian government about Suluhu’s visit,” Kalonzo cleared the air.

The leader of the Wiper party provided additional clarification that Raila traveled to Nanyuki by himself, where he engaged in a private meeting with Suluhu.

Even though the Azimio brigade was not part of the conversation, Kalonzo assured them that they were not concerned about being left out of any deals established by Raila.

“We thought it was wise for Raila to hear out Suluhu. We asked him not to make any commitments before talking to us,” Kalonzo explained.

The leader of the Wiper party followed Raila’s lead, stating that Ruto was the individual who extended an invitation to Suluhu to come to Kenya and facilitate discussions between the opposing factions and the government.

Kalonzo took the chance to express regret to the citizens of Tanzania for what he characterized as the embarrassment of their President caused by Ruto.

While the Azimio group persists in claiming that Suluhu’s presence in Kenya was due to an invitation from Ruto, the government has opted to stay quiet and has refrained from issuing a definite statement regarding this issue.

On July 26th, Hussein Mohammed, the spokesperson for the State House, declined to verify whether Suluhu stayed at a Nanyuki hotel for two nights or if she was ignored by Ruto.

He clarified that when Heads of State come to the nation, they adhere to established procedures overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ex-news presenter also mentioned that this doesn’t eliminate the possibility of a Head of State visiting Kenya for vacation or personal matters.

Kalonzo, a former foreign affairs minister, clarified that a president from another nation couldn’t come to Kenya without prior official communication with the government.
