Kalonzo Accused of Attempt to ‘Overthrow’ Raila From Azimio Leadership
Samuel Ochilo, the first speaker of the Homa Bay County Assembly, has voiced strong criticism against certain leaders within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
His main target is Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper party, whom he accuses of conspiring to oust Raila Odinga from his position as the coalitionโs leader.
Ochiloโs accusations stem from the recent political maneuverings that followed President William Ruto’s nomination of four ODM leaders to his cabinet.
Ochilo contends that the press conference organized by a faction of Azimio leaders, and spearheaded by Kalonzo Musyoka, was a thinly veiled attempt to challenge Odingaโs leadership.
The press conference was called to denounce the nominations made by President Ruto, a move that Ochilo interprets as an effort to undermine Odinga.
Notably, this press conference took place without the presence of Odinga, and neither the ODM party nor the NARC-Kenya party was represented.

During the press conference, Musyoka appeared to take the lead on behalf of the Azimio Coalition, which Ochilo perceives as an overreach in Odingaโs absence.
This act, according to Ochilo, suggests a deliberate effort to sideline Odinga and question his authority within the coalition.
He sees the resolutions made at the press conference as a direct threat to Odinga’s leadership, amounting to an internal coup.
Ochiloโs comments highlight the growing tensions within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, reflecting deeper fractures that have begun to surface.
His accusations against Musyoka point to a broader struggle for power and influence within the coalition, with significant implications for its unity and future direction.
The situation underscores the complexities of coalition politics in Kenya, where internal disagreements and power plays can significantly impact the overall stability and coherence of political alliances.
