Kakamega Youth Rally Against Protests, Led by Cleophas Malala
On Wednesday, youth in Kakamega town demonstrated in opposition to anti-government protests organized by the opposition to picket against the high cost of living.
The gathering, led by UDA Party secretary-general Cleophas Malala, marched through the Western Kenya town in the mid-morning hours, waving placards.
They stated that they desired peace above violence.
Several anti-riot police personnel had been deployed around this time in Nairobi, with roadblocks set in several areas including Ngong Road and Haile Selassie Avenue.
Citizen Digital journalists observed little activity in the capital’s central business sector, with the majority of shops remaining closed.
However, there were pictures of burning tires on roads and certain streets in Mombasa, and police began detaining people at the Express area of the CBD just before 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, in Migori, two middle-aged men were shot as police clashed with demonstrators.

In Kisumu, teenagers barricaded roads and ignited bonfires, while shops were closed and no PSV vehicles were seen on the roadways.
Despite government warnings, the Azimio group intends to hold rallies for three days straight beginning Wednesday.
The government withdrew former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s protection at her Gatundu and Muthaiga houses on Tuesday evening, instructing officers from the General Service Unit and Administration Police to depart and report to the nearest police station.
Similarly, more than ten security officers assigned to Azimio principles Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka were removed. Governors Gladys Wanga, James Orengo, and Anyang’ Nyong’o were also instructed to report to Kisumu by their security.
Over 50 MPs had their security recalled and were asked to attend to the Parliament Police Station.
In addition, the government ordered the closure of all-day primary and secondary schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu in response to what Interior CS Prof.
Kithure Kindiki and his Education counterpart Ezekiel Machogu stated there were genuine intelligence reports of a handful of renegade elements planning to attack certain schools and ‘unleash terror and mayhem on the people’ during the demonstrations.
