Justin Muturi Clarifies Statement Dismissing Latest Cabinet Changes
Former Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi has denied claims that he was unaware of his removal from office.
On March 26, 2025, President William Ruto made changes to his Cabinet, leading to Muturi’s dismissal.
Shortly after, a statement began circulating online, suggesting that Muturi had not been formally informed about his sacking. The statement, appearing to be from Muturi, also expressed his commitment to serving the country.
Muturi Calls Statement Fake
Muturi quickly responded on social media, posting a screenshot of the statement with the word “FAKE” stamped across it.
“Disregard this,” Muturi wrote, warning the public not to believe the statement.
Why Was Muturi Sacked?
Hours before his removal, Ruto criticized Muturi’s past performance as Attorney General, calling him “fairly incompetent” for delays in setting up the Waqf project.
Speaking at a State House Iftar dinner on March 25, Ruto compared Muturi to the new Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, whom he praised for being more efficient.
“I had a problem with the former AG. He was fairly incompetent. But I now have a very competent lady in that position, and the Waqf issues will be solved in months,” Ruto said.
Muturi Clashed with Ruto Over Abductions
Muturi’s firing followed months of tensions with Ruto over his outspoken criticism of the government’s handling of abductions and extrajudicial killings.
He had even boycotted several Cabinet meetings, demanding that these issues be formally addressed before he returned.
“I will only attend Cabinet meetings if the issue of abductions and extrajudicial killings is officially tabled,” Muturi had stated.
Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku Replaces Muturi
Following Muturi’s removal, Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku was nominated as the new Public Service CS.
Ruto also made other key changes in his Cabinet:
- Aden Duale was moved from Environment CS to Health CS.
- Deborah Barasa was transferred from Health CS to Environment CS.
- Hannah Cheptumo, the widow of Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, was appointed as the new Gender and Culture CS.
With these changes, Ruto aims to strengthen his administration as he continues leading the country.
