Junet Mohamed Speaks Over Push to Remove Ruto From Office Before 2027
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has urged Kenyans and political leaders to stop pushing for the removal of President William Ruto before the end of his term in 2027.
Speaking on Friday, January 3, in Bungoma County, Junet, the Minority Leader in the National Assembly, revealed that some Kenyans had approached him with plans to impeach the President. However, he advised against it, emphasizing the need to respect the five-year term outlined in the 2010 Constitution.
โItโs surprising that just one year after the elections, people who willingly voted for a leader to serve five years are now asking me to help remove him from office. I cannot take part in that. Let us wait for the next election,โ he said.ย ย
Junet mentioned that some individuals had presented unusual reasons for their dissatisfaction, referencing terms like “Zakayo the Tax Collector” and “Kasongo.” He dismissed these concerns, urging patience until the 2027 elections.ย

He also clarified that the minority side in Parliament has no involvement in such plans. Instead, they are focusing on matters like the upcoming African Union (AU) elections, where Raila Odinga is vying for the position of Commission chairperson.
โOur country operates as a constitutional democracy. We follow the law, and elections are held every five years,โ he stated.ย ย
Junet reiterated the Minorityโs role in Parliament, highlighting that their main duty is to protect citizensโ rights through legal and constitutional channels. He stressed the importance of respecting the rule of law and using constitutional processes to address political grievances.
In summary, Junet called for patience and respect for democratic principles, urging Kenyans to allow the current government to complete its term before making decisions at the ballot in 2027.
