Jubilee Issues Cease and Desist Letter to Sabina Chege Amid Power Clash

Jubilee Party has issued a cease and desist letter to nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege, cautioning her that legal action may be taken if she does not comply with the party’s requests.

In a communication directed to Chege by attorney Jackson Awele, Jubilee alleged that the Member of Parliament has been posing as the party’s leader and spokesperson, in violation of court-issued directives.

The party asserted that ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta continued to function as the de facto leader, with Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary-General, serving as its official spokesperson.

Chege received a warning that the party would pursue legal action against her if she persisted in her actions.

“We are accordingly instructed to demand as we hereby do that you cease forthwith from holding yourself out as the party leader of the Jubilee Party and from issuing any communication in the name of or on behalf of the Jubilee Party.

“We take the liberty to remind you that if you should continue passing off or holding yourself out otherwise than as stipulated in the aforementioned gazette notice no 3195 of 2022, we will commence contempt of court proceedings against you and any person who publicly associates with the violations complained of without further reference to you,” read the letter in part.

However, Chege faced allegations of promoting the principles of a different party, which were observed to conflict with the Jubilee constitution.

Uhuru’s party mentioned Chege’s affiliation with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party led by President William Ruto.

“In so doing you have publicly misused the party’s insignia in a manner deliberately calculated to mislead and confuse members of the party and the public at large into joining and promoting the policies of another political party and coalition – United Democratic Alliance and Kenya Kwanza Coalition respectively.

“At its last meeting in 2022, delegates authorized the formation of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition with the Jubilee party as a principal and founding member,” read the letter in part.

Significantly, the cease and desist order was directed at Chege just days after she orchestrated a gathering of various Jubilee elected Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to meet with Ruto at State House Nakuru.

During the gathering, the leaders committed to endorsing Ruto and his initiatives, in contrast to the position held by Uhuru and his supporters.
