On Sunday, July 2, social media was flooded with images of former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho. Wearing a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) T-shirt.

Taufiq Balala, the former Mombasa County Executive Committee (CEC) member. In charge of Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works, was seen standing next to Joho in the photo.

The former governor wore a brilliant yellow T-shirt with blue jeans, whereas Balala wore a grey T-shirt with blue jeans.

Several individuals reposted the image throughout the day. However, the first person to share the image on Twitter was a user with the handle ‘The Kaslim.’

The majority of Kenyans questioned whether the loyal Azimio supporter had abandoned the party for UDA, as the image caption read “Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has officially abandoned Raila’s ODM Party and joined the ruling UDA Party.”

Others, however, refuted the claims by stating that the former governor was loyal to Azimio leader Raila Odinga and therefore could not make such a rash decision.

Photos of former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho wearing a plain yellow T-shirt and former Mombasa County Executive Committee member Taufiq Balala(Right).

However, a Google reverse image search conducted by GossipA2Z revealed that the image had never been posted online before.

GossipA2Z conducted additional research and determined that Taufiq Balala had posted a similar image five days earlier.

In the photograph, Joho wore a yellow T-shirt without a brand and blue jeans, while Balala wore a grey T-shirt and blue jeans.

This suggested that the image may have been altered and the logo added in order to deceive others or advance an unknown agenda.

After a period of absence from political activity, Joho declared his loyalty to Azimio on April 21, adding that he would participate fully in Azimio’s protests.

He explained that he had left the country to seek medical treatment, preventing him from participating in political activities.

He stated that he had fully recovered and reaffirmed his loyalty to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
