Joho, Aisha Jumwa, and Moha Jicho Pevu Meet in High Stakes Meeting

Former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday met Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa and Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Moha Jicho Pevu.

The three, who were at one point members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, met at a meeting that brought together Coast region’s leaders, both former and current leaders.

In a statement, Moha Jicho Pevu noted that the event was aimed at deliberating on issues touching on the development of the Coast Region.

“Most importantly, we discussed matters of all the three Ports in the Coast- Mombasa Port, Lamu Port, and Shimoni Port and agreed to work together to safeguard and protect the interests of the People of The Coastal Region,” he stated.

“We may differ in opinions, but we are united in our conviction towards serving our people of the Coast so that we, and the generations to come may realize the power of unity of purpose in achieving our Coastal developmental goals,” he stated.

Photos from the event showed Joho exchanging pleasantries with both Moha Jicho Pevu, a member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and Jumwa.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani, and Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro were also in attendance.

Other leaders were Tana River Governor Major Dhadho Godana, his Lamu counterpart Issa Timamy, and Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime among others.

The leaders resolved to reach out to President William Ruto in a structured manner to formulate an all-inclusive development agenda for the region.

“We resolved to seek urgent audience with His Excellency, the President, to discuss the issue of the Port of Mombasa, whose activities impact greatly on the economies of the six coastal counties and the livelihoods of residents,” read a statement by Kingi.

Since the 2022 General Election, Joho has kept a low profile and stayed out of the public gaze entirely only making sporadic appearances at events.

Moha Jicho Pevu, who was once a member of the ODM party, ditched the Raila Odinga-led outfit in May 2017 after accusing Joho of rigging him out of the party’s primaries.

Jumwa, on the other hand, was expelled from ODM in March 2019 after the party accused her of being disloyal.
