Johnson Muthama Denies Rejoining Wiper Party, Affirms Commitment to UDA

United Democratic Alliance founding chairman Johnson Muthama has spoken about claims that he has re-joined the Wiper Party.

In a statement on Friday, Muthama said that he is a principled person and he is in the ruling party to stay.

He however said that as Ukambani leaders, they will always meet to push for the interests of the community, regardless of the political party one supports.

“I understand lies are being peddled that I’ve re-joined Wiper Party but as a principled person, I am in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to stay,” he said.

“We will meet to champion unity of the community devoid of political parties.”

His remarks come a few days after he said the Ukambani region was given a raw deal by President William Ruto’s government.

“You saw Muthama from the UDA party but today, apart from Kambas who were given messenger jobs, including me, there is no Kamba leader on the cake-sharing table,” he said.

Speaking at a funeral last week, Muthama also hinted at working with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka again to consolidate the region’s vote ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said this is the only way they have better bargaining power when negotiating to form a coalition.

The former Machakos Senator, however, noted that it does not mean he does not support President William Ruto.

He also urged the region to support Kalonzo’s 2027 presidential bid.

Muthama stepped down as UDA party leader after he was picked to serve in the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
