In a statement, President William Ruto lauded the African Union’s (AU) admission to the G20, noting that it would bolster the continent’s voice on the international stage.

President Ruto added that a presence at the table would provide a forum for advancing the common interests of Africa’s people.

Moments later, Modi responded to the statement by stating that all G20 nations shared Ruto’s vision.

President Ruto added that the inclusion was consistent with the resolutions adopted by African heads of state at the Africa Climate Summit, which concluded on September 6.

“This includes the reform of international financial institutions and multilateral development banks,” he remarked.

In agreement, Modi stated, “We look forward to collaborative efforts that benefit not only our respective continents but also the entire world.”

The African Union, led by its chairman Azali Assoumani, will assume a permanent seat in the G20 to represent its 55 member nations.

The Group of 20 is an intergovernmental organization comprised of the world’s 19 most developed nations.

The G20, which is comprised of the world’s wealthiest nations and economic blocs, focuses primarily on addressing global economic issues.

According to his April remarks, international financial stability and climate change mitigation are two of President William Ruto’s top priorities.

During the Africa Climate Summit, Ruto reiterated his concerns about a discriminatory global lending system that negatively impacted African nations.

“We are asking for a win-win financial architecture that brings everyone on board,” he remarked then.
