Ichung’wah: “Gachagua Plotted Abductions to Frame Ruto, Shame on You!”
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating the surge in abduction cases across the country.
During the burial of Moses Wetangula’s mother on Friday, January 3, Ichung’wah alleged that Gachagua was behind the kidnappings to tarnish President William Ruto’s reputation. His remarks follow Gachagua’s recent criticism of the president over the same issue.
Ichung’wah also targeted Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, present at the event, accusing him of failing to act against abductions during his time as Police Regional Commander.
“Gachagua masterminded these abductions to blame President Ruto. And you, Governor Natembeya, were the chief abductor under the last regime. Shame on you!” Ichung’wah stated, launching a fiery attack on Natembeya.
Heated Exchange at the Burial
Governor Natembeya, who condemned the abductions while addressing mourners, faced jeers from the crowd, signaling tension over his remarks. After interventions, he managed to speak, calling for an end to abductions and addressing the toxic language on social media.
“We must stop these abductions. While social media insults are a concern, no one deserves to be killed or kidnapped over such issues,” Natembeya said.

Ichung’wah, however, accused the governor of fueling ethnic divisions among Western communities, likening his actions to Gachagua’s alleged divisive politics. He warned Natembeya against inciting fear in the region.
“The politics of division you and your allies promote will fail. Gachagua, your leader in divisive tactics, is the real culprit behind these abductions,” Ichung’wah said.
Linking Natembeya to Past Atrocities
Ichung’wah further alleged Natembeya’s involvement in past killings, referencing incidents where bodies were discovered in River Yala and the controversial Mau evictions.
“You were the Regional Commissioner when people were killed and dumped in River Yala. You orchestrated these atrocities, yet you now pretend to care. Shame on you,” Ichung’wah charged.
Meanwhile, Gachagua, who has been vocal against the abductions, continues to press the government to identify and punish those responsible while ensuring the safe return of abductees.
The abduction crisis has left families of six youths missing since Christmas in distress, heightening calls for immediate action to address the escalating issue.
