ICC Prosecutor Khan Arrives in Kenya
Karim Khan, the head prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, has arrived in Kenya for the purpose of being conferred an honorary Doctor of Law degree at the 23rd graduation ceremony of Mount Kenya University.
On Friday, August 2nd, Dr. Simon Gicharu, the founder of Mount Kenya University, extended a welcome to the attorney who, at the International Criminal Court, acted as the legal representative for President Ruto, who is 50 years of age.
“Mount Kenya University has nominated Karim A. A Khan for the conferment of honorary Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) during the 23rd graduation ceremony in recognition of his broad contribution to the rule of law and international justice,” MKU noted.
In a communication observed by GossipA2Z.com, the award is being granted as acknowledgment for the following reasons: being an experienced expert in International Criminal Law and Human Rights Law, actively participating in counter-terrorism efforts, and conducting extensive research in the realm of legal studies.
Khan assumed the role of the new ICC prosecutor, commencing a nine-year tenure on June 16, 2021. He is notable for his legal representation of the present leader, William Ruto, during his ICC trial for alleged crimes against humanity. This trial also involved former Head of Public Service, Francis Muthaura. Ultimately, President Ruto was cleared of these charges in 2015.
Mount Kenya University has commended the dedication of the prosecutor within the legal field and their unwavering efforts in combatting global terrorism with diligence.
Khan didn’t possess a doctoral degree, though he had registered for a doctorate program at Wolsfon College, Oxford University. However, he did not finish the program.
