“I Was Inside Mt.Kenya Forest Fasting And Meditating,” Gachagua Explains His 7-Day Absence

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has clarified his recent 7-day absence from the public eye, dismissing rumors of internal conflict within the Kenya Kwanza party.

Gachagua explained to mourners that he had taken a break for meditation, prayer, and fasting within the expansive Mt. Kenya forest, a retreat he periodically undertakes.

“I had taken seven days away for prayers and fasting, for reflection and meditation in the heart of Mt. Kenya forest,” Gachagua told mourners at the funeral of his former teacher, Kano Ndumbi.

He recounted how he entered the forest with explicit instructions to remain undisturbed during his period of prayer and meditation.

“I had given clear instructions that I wanted to meditate and pray for our nation,” Gachagua added.

He mentioned that he was only interrupted when he received news of the death of his close friend and former teacher, Kano Ndumbi.

He shared that his wife, Pastor Dorcas, was the one who informed him about his late teacher’s passing, highlighting their close relationship.

Gachagua’s comments came shortly after his return from a week-long absence, amidst rumors of discord within the ruling Kenya Kwanza party.

On Sunday, Gachagua dispelled these speculations by attending a church service at Endarasha Catholic Church in Kieni constituency, Nyeri county.

His appearance followed days of speculation, during which he was notably absent from key state functions, fueling rumors of a fallout with President William Ruto.

The rumors intensified when Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga saw off Uganda President Yoweri Museveni during his three-day state visit to Kenya.

President Ruto was in Rwanda when Museveni departed, and it was expected that DP Gachagua would see Museveni off.

The Deputy President was also absent during the tree planting holiday, an event led by Ruto and other government officials across the country.

Gachagua, known for his active participation in state events and close association with Ruto, had remained noticeably quiet, including on social media.

The events surrounding the Limuru III meeting further fueled speculation about the alleged fallout within Kenya Kwanza.

Recently, Gachagua has championed the “one man, one vote, one shilling” campaign supported by some Mt. Kenya leaders. Attendees of Limuru III emphasized this point, criticizing Ruto for allegedly neglecting the Mt. Kenya region, which had strongly supported him in the 2022 election.

The Limuru III meeting led to the formation of the Haki Coalition, with leaders claiming it would chart a way forward for the people of the Mt. Kenya region.
