I Have Ksh 7B Net Worth- Gachagua Responds After Claims He Used Sons to Buy Multi-Billion Hotels
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has defended himself against allegations that his wealth increased to billions after taking office in 2022.
In a media interview, Gachagua criticized the 40-page impeachment motion set to be presented against him on October 1, reiterating his innocence.
He dismissed claims of amassing Ksh5.7 billion in assets since becoming Deputy President, stating he was already wealthy before taking office.
“I was not poor when I assumed office,” Gachagua said.
“My wealth has been public for years. In 2019, my net worth was Ksh 12 billion, and by 2022, it stood at Ksh 7 billion.”
The impeachment motion lists his alleged properties, including Tree Tops Hotel, Outspan Hotel, Olive Gardens Hotel, and Vipingo Beach Resort.

The motion claims these assets were acquired through family members, including his sons, Kevin and Keith.
Responding to accusations of channeling public funds, Gachagua emphasized his long-standing involvement in business.
“I have never been corrupt. I had business ventures before I entered government, and my sons have never worked in government. If there’s proof of any wrongdoing, let it be presented,” he asserted.
Gachagua also addressed claims regarding Tree Tops Hotel, clarifying it was leased from the Kenya Wildlife Service and not owned by him.
He further stated his children took significant loans to fund their businesses.
As the impeachment motion is set for discussion, Gachagua remains confident, saying, “Let’s wait and see what happens. The motion is tomorrow.”
