I cannot sign an impeachment motion against Gachagua – Sabina Chege
Nominated MP Sabina Chege has pledged her support for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in light of rumors suggesting an impeachment plan against him.
According to a report by The Standard, a meeting held late on the night of Saturday, July 27, at the residence of a CS nominee, involved 21 MPs who agreed to initiate an impeachment motion against the Deputy President, accusing him of undermining the presidency.
During an interview on Inooro TV, Chege questioned the motives of those seeking to remove DP Gachagua from office, especially considering the president’s recent call for unity and his inclusion of opposition members in his cabinet.
“The Mt Kenya Kingpin is Rigathi Gachagua because he has the highest rank politically. I want to say that I would not sign (the impeachment motion),” she said.
“We have supported Azimio’s Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission chairperson position, and brought ODM members to cabinet, does it mean that it’s only our own who has done so much wrong that we want to remove him from office?”
She praised the Deputy President for bringing the region together, even though he encountered criticism from other Mt Kenya leaders who claimed he was attempting to divide the nation through tribal politics.

“For instance, we did not expect Gachagua to rise to DP’s office from the D.O. He has tried in his efforts to rise in the ranks. When he was given such a mandate, he has rallied people from the region to unite,” she pointed out.
The legislator advised President Ruto to avoid engaging in such discussions, highlighting that he faced similar criticism during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
“If it’s true, it would be very unfortunate. I pray that President Ruto has not come to such thoughts because he himself went through the same thing when he deputized Uhuru. At first, things seemed well until those surrounding Uhuru began talking ill of the DP,” she added.
Chege questioned whether President Ruto’s decision to appoint four ODM members as ministers was aimed at either unifying the nation or undermining the opposition.
“If the president could include opposition members to his cabinet, this move either means he wants to unite the country or to finish ODM,” she noted.
