Human Rights Group Fires Back at Ruto Over Abduction Sentiments, Unveils List of Missing Persons
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) on Friday criticized President William Ruto over his claims of being unaware of any alleged police abductions.
The Commission described President Ruto’s comments as a clear falsehood, pledging to hold him responsible for the cases of enforced disappearances.
The lobby group highlighted that the families of those abducted or killed during recent anti-government protests have not received any compensation, despite the government’s knowledge of these incidents happening nationwide.
“President Ruto’s assertion that he is unaware of any Kenyans forcibly disappeared by security forces during the anti-government protests is an outright lie,” the commission asserted.
“On this International Day of the Disappeared, William Ruto must be held accountable for these enforced disappearances that took place under his leadership.”
In further emphasis, KHRC released the names of individuals who were reportedly abducted or killed during the recent nationwide protests.

The Human Rights Commission’s statement followed shortly after the Head of State instructed the Interior Ministry to expedite investigations into all reported abductions.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Kisumu, the President assured Kenyans that the government would take swift and decisive action against those responsible.
Addressing the issue, President Ruto stated he was unaware of any reported abduction cases during the recent anti-government protests.
President Ruto urged Kenyans whose relatives reportedly went missing during the protests to report such cases to the Ministry of Interior for thorough investigations.
“If there is any family whose child, friend, or relative attended a demonstration last year or this year and did not return, I want to know their names,” Ruto instructed.
“I will take firm and decisive action because as of now, I don’t have a single name of someone who has been abducted or disappeared.”
The Head of State emphasized that all Kenyans have the right to freedom of association, and no one should be subjected to inhumane treatment due to their political beliefs.
