How KCSE Students Can Check Cut-Off Points on the KUCCPS Portal
After the commencement of the Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement (KUCCPS) on January 8, 2024, numerous students interested in applying for degree, diploma, and certificate programs brought up various concerns regarding the application process.
The KUCCPS has initiated the application process, with a deadline set for February 20, 2024, encouraging students to submit their applications ahead of time to prevent a last-minute rush.

The Placement body observed that the application was designed for two specific categories: individuals who completed their fourth form between 2000 and 2022, and students who took the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023.
Nevertheless, several hours later, students reported a portal outage that prevented them from submitting their applications. In response, KUCCPS advised the students to persist in verifying the portal status due to increased traffic.
A highlighted concern was the distinction between cut-off points and cluster points, emphasizing the ways individuals can obtain access to their preferred degree or certificate program.
Gossipa2z gives a breakdown of the process and the difference between the two:
What is the difference between cut-off points and weighted cluster points?
As per KUCCPS, cluster points refer to the evaluated academic achievement of a graduate in four specified subjects necessary for entry into a specific degree program. This evaluation is done by comparing the graduate’s performance with that of the top candidates in a particular KCSE exam year.
The scoring is determined by the specific cluster subject criteria and the overall performance of candidates. To minimize the likelihood of applicants having the same score, the Placement Body calculates the score to three decimal places.
Alternatively, cut-off points refer to the weighted cluster points achieved by the last student who secured a competitive position in a specific degree program.
How to check cut-off points at the KUCCPS portal
The KUCCPS student portal automatically computes cluster points upon a student’s course application, and the dashboard additionally presents the placement outcomes.
To check for the cut-off points, log in to the student portal at students.kuccps.net
Select the Programmes option.

This is categorized as below:
Degree Programmes: mean grade of C+ (plus)
Diploma Programmes: mean grade of C – (minus)
Craft Certificate Courses: mean grade of D (plain)
