Homa Bay Governor Gladys wanga’s Statement On Israel-Palestine Situation Mocked By Kenyans Online

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has been massively trolled and badly mocked online after she disastrously attempted to wade across the murky Israel-Palestine waters.

As a rule, powerful world leaders always make carefully worded statements whenever a matter as delicate as the Gaza-Israel conflict erupts.

These statements, issued either by the Presidency directly or the foreign affairs ministry, are normally made as a diplomatic procedure meant to communicate a particular country’s stand on the matter and which most generally reflects the international sentiments of the day.

As leaders across the world scrambled to make sense of the sudden Hamas attack on Southern Israel, Kenya’s President William Ruto too made his stand known – unequivocally standing with Israel, adding, “The people of Kenya and their government hereby express deepest sympathy and send condolences to the families of all victims.”

Amidst the fiery rockets and the billowing smoke, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga too decided to issue her own county’s statement, a move which not only surprised many but left her smudged with egg on her face.

Wanga, who, to her credit, has been praised as one of the best-performing Governors, appeared to avoid aligning herself directly with either party, simply releasing an organic statement largely geared to a peace-finding solution.

“It is crucial that we prioritize the protection and welfare of innocent civilians, who bear the brunt of these senseless acts of violence,” part of Wanga’s statement read.

“At times like these, it is imperative that we come together as a global community and actively work towards finding a lasting solution.”

While continuing to advocate for inclusivity and tolerance, Wanga ended her statement by pushing for the upholding of the ‘rights and dignity of every human’.

“Let us strive for a world where dialogue and understanding prevail over violence, and where the rights and dignity of every human being are upheld,” she concluded.

Soon after she had published the strange communique on X (formerly Twitter) astonished X users railed on her, wondering who had empowered Homa Bay County to speak on such touchy international matters and how she even got involved in such an intricate issue best left to global powers.

X user @robertamos asked, “You’re speaking as who? This is the job of the President of Kenya or the foreign ministry. Unatoa statement kama nani? How is Homa Bay part of an issue that the UN hasn’t even been able to tackle? Kenya is ridiculous!”

Another user @wangarecate asked, “Ona huyu sasa! Shida zimejaa kwao Homa Bay na ako hapa anatoa statement za Israel. Baby girl, the Israel-Palestine conflict is above your pay grade. Wee zungusha Ruto Nyanza mkifungua miradi wachana na mambo ya European Union!”

On his part, Tom E. Oyier said, “Please just focus on the people suffering from diarrhea in Homa Bay! Should you feel the need to stretch ..you can talk about Sondu… Focus Please!”

While yet another cheeky Kenyan wrote, “The First Letter of Gladys Wanga to the Israelites (laugh emojis)!”

Someone also accused Wanga of using Chat-GPT to draft the statement which they said could easily apply to any situation, anywhere in the world, including Kenya.

“Hii ni maandishi ya Chat-GPT! Just remove the words Israel, Gaza, Palestine, and (War?)… And replace them with any Azimio vocabulary you know. This kaletter would be perfect during maandamano…” one user posited.

So far, as the deadly Gaza War enters the fourth day, 900 Israelis have been killed with 2,400 wounded. Additionally, 704 Palestinians have been killed in airstrikes with the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) holding 1,500 bodies of so-called ‘terrorists’.
