Today, Saturday, May 13, the burial of Mukami Kimathi, the wife of freedom icon Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, will take place in Nyandarua.
The funeral set in motion events that will result in the three politicians sharing the same platform in Nyandarua for the first time.
Raila Odinga, the leader of the coalition party Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, has always had a close relationship with the Kimathi family.
In the company of veteran freedom fighter Gitu Kahengeri, Raila viewed Mukami’s body at the Lee Funeral Home.
He requested a state funeral for Mukami at Uhuru Gardens, where Mau Mau fighters were tortured, and criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly politicizing the burial.
He confirmed that he would attend the funeral in Njambini. “I cannot miss Shujaa Mama Mukami wa Kimathi’s funeral. We were extremely close, and I will attend Njabini’s final ceremony on earth,” Raila said.

The former prime minister is already in the Mt. Kenya region, where he attended the funeral for 82-year-old Mary Nyambura Cyrus, the mother of former Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria’s wife.
Government planning Mukami’s funeral
On Friday, May 6, the DP announced that the National Funeral Committee had taken over the planning of the heroine’s burial.
“We have agreed with the family that the funeral will take place on Saturday at her residence in Njabini, Nyandarua county. “During the service, President Ruto will lead the government,” Gachagua said in a statement.
Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo will chair the national funeral committee tasked with planning Mukami’s funeral, according to the second in command.
He explained that President William Ruto had instructed him to meet with the hero’s family and plan her funeral.
Mukami exhales her last breath
