High Court Suspends Bruno Obodha’s Appointment as EAPCC Managing Director
The Nairobi High Court has halted the appointment of Bruno Oguda Obodha as Managing Director of the East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC).
On Friday, Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued a temporary order stopping the execution of the executive orders that had appointed Obodha to the role. This decision came after a petition was filed by Caroline Wambui Mwangi.
The court also prohibited Obodha from taking office or carrying out any duties related to the position.
“Mr. Bruno Oguda Obodha, or anyone else, is barred from assuming the Managing Director role or performing any related functions following the press release on December 20, 2024,” Justice Mwamuye stated.
The petitioner, Wambui, has been ordered to serve all involved parties, including Obodha, with the court documents and submit their responses by January 20, 2025, and rejoinders by January 27, 2025.

Wambui argued that the appointment of Obodha lacked transparency and accountability, claiming there was no proof that the Public Service Commission played any role in the process.
Wambui sued the Attorney General, EAPCC, and the company board, with Obodha named as the interested party.
The EAPCC board had previously refused to approve Obodha’s appointment, citing integrity concerns and a potential conflict of interest. They later sent a letter to the Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade, and Investment questioning the decision.
On December 23, EAPCC workers protested Obodha’s appointment by shutting down the company’s Athi River plant.
