High Court Presiding Judge Airlifted to Hospital after Serious Road Accident

Isiolo High Court Judge Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae was involved in a road accident on Monday, September 9, while traveling with her bodyguard and driver.

Their vehicle veered off the Eldama Ravine-Nakuru Highway and rolled into a ditch.

The Ford vehicle sustained significant front-end damage, including the windshield, highlighting the crash’s severity.

Mogotio OCPD Felician Nafula confirmed the incident, stating that the judge and her two companions were injured. The judge was later airlifted to Nairobi for specialized care, while the other two were taken to Valley Hospital in Nakuru.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) released a statement confirming the judge’s stable condition following treatment.

“Hon Lady Justice Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae, a High Court Judge and Presiding Judge at Isiolo High Court was involved in a road accident along the Eldama Ravineโ€“Nakuru road. She is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition. We wish her a speedy recovery,” the statement read.

First responders and a traffic officer quickly arrived at the scene to assist the judge, and fortunately, no fatalities occurred.

This incident is part of a growing pattern of road accidents across the country in recent weeks.

Just days earlier, on Friday, September 6, three people tragically lost their lives in a crash on the Londianiโ€“Muhoroni Highway involving a lorry and a Nissan double cabin near Fort Ternan.

In a separate incident, nine people died following an accident on the Muhoroni-Kipsitet road near the Kisumu-Kericho border.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority, by August 27, 2024, at least 3,056 people had lost their lives on Kenyan roads, up from 2,910 during the same period in 2023.

Additionally, 7,114 people have been involved in road accidents this year, an increase of 703 from last year.
