Gov’t Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura Debunks Ruto-Gachagua Rift Rumors

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has downplayed ongoing speculation of disagreement between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua over the ‘government shareholding’ narrative.

Speaking onย Citizen TV’s Monday Report show, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said the perceived rift is a “creation of the media”

“… it’s the creation of the media. Deliberate creation of that rift. The president and deputy are reading from the same script,” said Mwaura.

Mwaura however asserted that those who supported the President would be given priority in terms of appointments, noting that those are the individuals who understand and share in the Kenya Kwanza vision.

“I want to say clearly and categorically that every Kenyan has an equal opportunity to whatever the government has to offer. Yes, those who worked with the President and the DP may indeed get a priority in terms of serving in certain positions. At the same time, the President is reaching out to everyone even those who did not vote for him to ensure that we move forward as a country,” said Mwaura.

He added: “I do not see a difference between the President’s and DPโ€™s position on the shareholding conversation. I think there is a lot of misquoting. Let the media not try to drive a wedge between the President and the DP.”

On Monday, President Ruto dismissed as ‘primitive and backward’ notions that regions of the country would be allocated government resources according to how they voted.

“It is primitive and backward for anyone to imagine that any region of Kenya cannot get development on account of how they voted, that is not right, that is not correct,” said Ruto.

From the onset of the Kenya Kwanza government, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has driven a contentious narrative that the government is like a private shareholding company.

That narrative has been roundly condemned first by the opposition, and increasingly later by even by those in the same political boat as the deputy.

“Stop this shareholders issue. All Kenyans are in government and all of us want to be involved in development issues. Honeymoon is over, celebrations are over,” said Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro.

“By the mere product that you have that can contribute to our jobs, our foreign exchange and our national GDP everyone in this country is a shareholder…,” said Public Service CS Moses Kuria.
