Gov’t Increases Police Officers’ Salaries by KSh 4,000 Each
The government has announced that the salaries of all 74,000 police constables will be increased by KSh 4,000.
In a communique seen by Gossipa2z.com addressed to the National Treasury, the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei sought to have more resources allocated for the increment.
How much will police get from Kenyan taxpayer?
State House Nairobi indicated it would cost the taxpayer KSh 1.3 billion in the 2024/25 fiscal year for the police salary’s upward review.
“The president has observed that the resources allocated for the review of the salary structure for the National Police Service for FY 2024/25 amount to KSh 1.3 billion,” partly read the communique.
The Exchequer was, therefore, directed to actualize the salary review in coordination with the National Police Service (NPS) and the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
The increment will be reflected in the officers’ July payslips.
Findings of Maraga Taskforce on police reforms
The police salary review was informed by the recommendations of the National Taskforce On Police Reforms chaired by former Chief Justice David Maraga.

The Maraga-led team constituted to review the welfare of the police and their conditions at work established that the state law enforcers were grappling with many challenges, among them underfunding and poor handling of human capital management and development.
Besides the police, also to have salary increments will be prison officers and members of the National Youth Service (NYS).
According to the government, the salary enhancements, alongside other proposed reforms, aim to tackle issues such as underfunding, leadership deficiencies, structural weaknesses, and corruption identified by the task force.
SRC approves salary increase for police officers
Earlier, Gossipa2z.com reported that Ruto directed the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to review civil servants’ salaries up by 7% to 10% in August 2024.
SRC recommended a pay rise of KSh 27.1 billion to be paid to public workers, out of which the Kenya National Police Service (NPS) received 3.6 billion.
Then Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome confirmed the salary increment that would see the least paid officer take home KSh 34,135.
