Govt Cancels Licences of 102 Groups Including Churches & School Associations
The licenses of 102 entities, comprising churches, business entities, and school associations, have been revoked by the Registrar of Societies.
In a notice issued on Friday, the registrar, Maria Nyariki, stated that the organizations would stop their operations in response to the official publication of the notice.
It was clarified that the withdrawal of licenses was carried out in compliance with the legal requirements outlined in the Societies Act.
Several religious organizations, such as Kenya Independent Churches, Winners Celebration Center, Glorious Gate Ministries, Kenya Revival Group of The Gospel, and God of Wonders Evangelistic Ministry, have had their licenses revoked.
The license of the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa was also canceled.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) (i) of the Societies Act and Rule 14 (d) of the Societies Rules. The Registrar of Societies cancels the registration of the societies specified in the second column of the Schedule. With effect from the respective dates specified in the fourth column of the Schedule,” read the notice in part.

“Where under section 12(1) of the Act the Registrar thinks that the registration of a society should be canceled or suspended, he shall send to the society a notification of intended cancellation or suspension in Form G(1) in the Schedule to these Rules; and a notification of cancellation or suspension in Form G(2) in the Schedule to these Rules,” reads the Act in part.
The State Law, overseen by Attorney General Justin Muturi, houses the registrar’s office.
