Gov’t Backtracks: No Extended 2nd Term School Calendar Ahead of Reopening
The Ministry of Education declared that the school calendar for the second term will remain unchanged, contrary to earlier rumors.
According to a statement from Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, school administrators have been instructed to admit students without any conditions as the second term begins on Monday, May 13.
Kipsang addressed concerns about possible interruptions to the school calendar, advising schools to stick to the previously announced term dates and planned activities.
The PS encouraged day schools to establish suitable reporting and departure times for students.
He instructed schools to follow specific directives, including the unconditional admission of students and the removal of obstacles like uniforms and school fees, especially for those affected by floods.
What other guidelines were provided
Additionally, Kipsang stressed the importance of student safety across the country during school reporting.
He reinforced the need for compliance with school transport guidelines, including a ban on night travel.
“Government rules on school transportation must be followed. Boarding students traveling back to school should be on the road only between 6 am and 6 pm,” he stated.
School administrations have also been instructed to conduct orientation sessions for students on safety protocols within the school grounds.
The training should include emergency procedures and steps to avoid accidents or injuries.
Kipsang added that any necessary repairs and maintenance would be carried out on areas damaged by recent floods.
