‘Go Slow On Impeaching Your Governors,’ CS Kuria Tells Mount Kenya Region In Sarcastic Post

Moses Kuria, cabinet secretary for trade, implored the Mount Kenya region to halt their efforts to oust their governors, citing the dispute between Meru County county councilors and governor Kawira Mwangaza.

The Trade minister stated on X, formerly Twitter, that residents of the Mt. Kenya district must maintain unity to foster economic growth.

He implored the citizens of Meru to leave the ambitious plan to impeach their governor to other regions and to allow Mwangaza to perpetuate future growth and development.

“In the last term, Kiambu County from Mt Kenya region made history by becoming the first county to successfully impeach a Governor. In this term Meru County in the Mt. Kenya region is determined to become the first county to successfully impeach the governor,” he wrote.

“Unless impeachment has something to do with the soils, altitude, or climatic conditions, it is necessary for the Mt. Kenya region to allow other regions to impeach their governors in the spirit of inclusivity, diversity, and national cohesion. My two cents.”

This occurs in the context of a protracted dispute between Mwangaza and county MCAs, who have accused the county administrator of nepotism and flagrant misconduct in office.

On Tuesday, MCAs filed a new impeachment motion, accusing Mwangaza of using her gender to manipulate her public image and generate the impression that the MCAs are biased.

The 11-member Senate Special Committee appointed to investigate the grounds for the governor’s impeachment concluded in December 2022 that none of the charges brought against her by the Meru MCAs were proved.

The MCAs leveled 62 charges against Mwangaza, but she was not removed from office.

The disputes have attracted the mediation of President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, who have exhorted the governor to concentrate on serving the people rather than fostering chaos.
