Garissa Residents Yet to Receive Relief Food Launched by DP Gachagua
Garissa locals are expressing worries as they haven’t received the aid and provisions provided by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
At the beginning of December, Gachagua distributed food and provisions to assist more than 20,000 families impacted by the floods in the county.
Local government authorities in the area affirmed that they initiated inquiries to locate the absent resources following inquiries from residents regarding the postponement of distribution operations.
They additionally asked their respective national government officials to assist in the follow-up process, considering that the individuals impacted are still facing challenges resulting from the El Nino rainfall effects.
“The most shocking bit is the Deputy President was standing in this exact ground with not less than thirty lorries of food.”
“We were hoping the food was for us, but now nobody knows where the food is,” one resident lamented.

“I was very excited to see the Deputy President. I knew at least I would be sleeping on a good mattress in a tent by now, but the vehicles left after the function and we have not received anything,” another resident stated.
As per Abdalla Dulo, the chairperson, an additional 144,000 impoverished individuals in Garissa County depended on relief food.
“Efforts by officials to track down the relief food have proved futile. These people need help as soon as possible,” Guyo stated.
This occurred a few days after the postponement of Turkana County’s Jamhuri Day celebrations due to the reported theft of essential food aid designated for impoverished locals.
Loima constituency’s MP, Protus Akuja, requested Deputy County Commissioner Peter Mutiso to clarify the situation regarding the absence of relief food.
“I heard last month’s relief food was seen being parked up in someone’s wholesale shop,” Akuja accusingly stated.
