Gang Leader’s Global Challenge: Haiti’s Barbecue Eyes Kenyan Police Clash
On Friday, Jimmy Chérizier, also known as “Barbecue,” the notorious leader of Haiti’s most perilous gang, conveyed a message to the Kenyan police and military in anticipation of their deployment.
During a press briefing, Barbecue stated that he would view the Kenyan police as hostile forces and pledged to oppose them.
Barbecue denounced the Kenyan police as intruders, declaring his unwillingness to collaborate with them, citing his belief that they intended to meddle with Haiti’s sovereignty.
“If Kenyan military or police come, whatsoever, I will consider them, aggressors,” the gang leader noted.
“We will consider them as invaders and we do not have to collaborate with any invaders that have come to walk over our independence,” Barbecue stated.
The gang leader mentioned that he was willing to cease hostilities under the condition that his group had representation in the ongoing formation of the transition committee.
Barbecue stated that he had been approached for discussions over the last three years but had remained steadfast in prolonging the conflict until his grievances were resolved.

The leader of the gang promised to intensify actions to fend off any foreign country that tries to get involved in the ongoing conflicts.
“Every new day that passes we have to come up with a new strategy so that we can advance,” Barbecue stated.
“But there is no calm. In the days that are coming things will get worse than they are right now because as long as they choose not to put everyone on the table for us to talk it is the same system that will regenerate,” the gang leader added.
His feelings emerged seven days following the death of another gang leader named Makandal, who, along with his associates, was killed in a violent confrontation with law enforcement in Pétion-Ville, a suburb situated in the southeastern part of the Caribbean country.
According to a report from the Haiti Police, it was purported that the gang leader met his demise following the collaboration of city residents and law enforcement in assaulting him and his accomplices.
