Gachagua’s Generous Gift: Ksh2.1 Million Donated During Heartwarming Walk With Kids
Saturday, June 17th, Vice President Rigathi Gachagua donated Ksh2.1 million to the heart-to-heart walk.
While kicking off the event organized by the Karen Hospital, Gachagua remarked that the walks were a noble effort to raise funds for children with heart disease.
Due to the high cost of heart surgery, the DP observed that several families were struggling to raise funds for their children’s heart operations.
He also noted that the program was consistent with the Kenya Kwanza Manifesto’s goal of providing Kenyans with quality and affordable health care.
“At KNH, open heart surgery costs between Ksh350,000 and Ksh450,000, whereas close heart surgery costs between Ksh150,000 and Ksh250,000. The price may rise following the procedure.
“I have raised Ksh2.1 million for this course,” he said.
Gachagua also lauded the program’s organizers, led by Dr. Dan Gikonyo, remarking that it provided a reprieve to many families struggling to obtain medication.

In his speech, he stated that over 200,000 Kenyan children required heart-related treatment or surgery.
“It is unquestionably unattainable for families living at the bottom of the social economic pyramid. As others call for donations and Harambee, this has sunk and entrapped families in poverty.
“The President is reforming the health sector, particularly the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).” We are committed to ensuring the success of high-quality healthcare,” he continued.
Before departing for Meru County, he participated in the walk and interacted with the children present at the event.
Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o and the county’s Woman Representative Esther Passaris accompanied Gachagua.
