Gachagua Homecoming: EX-MP Explains Why Chaos Might Have Been Scripted

Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has suggested that the chaos seen on Thursday during the homecoming of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua might not have been spontaneous but carefully planned.

In an interview with a local radio station on Friday, August 22, 2025, Ngunjiri alleged that rival politicians eyeing the 2027 elections could have staged the melee to make either Gachagua or the government look guilty.

According to Ngunjiri, the violent scenes were linked to ongoing political realignments across the country, as several leaders used Gachaguaโ€™s return to flex their influence ahead of the 2027 polls. He warned that such moves could easily spark rival groups to incite violence.

โ€œDonโ€™t blame Gachagua or the government; even the politicians themselves, the way they set themselves up, trying to show they are present with their supporters.

โ€œThis can also bring clashes, which we are seeing. This is politics. We all saw some leaders who have 2027 aspirations, openly campaigning for various seats in the 2027 poll.

โ€œWhat do you think will prevent their opponents from planning chaos, so that Gachagua or the government can be blamed?โ€ Ngunjiri said.

    Aftermath of the Chaos

The former lawmaker urged political leaders to exercise responsibility during major rallies, warning that choreographed violence only undermines public trust. He added that it risks wrongly portraying Gachagua or the state as the instigators.

His remarks came a day after dramatic scenes in Nairobi and surrounding areas, where thousands of supporters turned out to welcome Gachagua.

Security agencies have since confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover the real cause of the disturbances.
