Gachagua Close Ally Karungo Wa Thang’wa Accepts Ruto’s CBS Award
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has accepted the prestigious Chief of the Burning Spear (CBS) award from President William Ruto.
A key ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Karungo expressed his gratitude upon receiving this distinguished honor.
The CBS award is among Kenya’s highest civilian recognitions, honoring exceptional service and significant contributions to the nation.
In a message shared on X on December 13, Karungo highlighted the importance of the award, emphasizing that it goes beyond political boundaries.
“The Chief of the Burning Spear Award is one of the highest honors acknowledging outstanding service and contributions to Kenya. It transcends individual politics and focuses on the collective good of the nation,” he stated.

Although Karungo has been a vocal supporter of Gachagua’s vision for the Mt Kenya region, he clarified that accepting the award was not an endorsement of the current administration, but a reflection of his commitment to serving Kenya.
“Although I may not align with the current government’s policies or leadership, my acceptance of the award reflects my respect for the values it stands for and the people it aims to uplift. It is a recognition of my service to Kenya, not a declaration of political loyalty,” Karungo added.
In a separate matter, Thang’wa proposed that DCI vehicles be branded to improve public trust and address concerns about abductions.
His proposal came after a detailed discussion with DCI officers, where he sought clarification on the use of unmarked Subaru vehicles.
The senator intends to push for amendments to laws such as the National Police Service Act, which would require DCI vehicles to be visibly branded with logos, contact details, and unique identifiers.
Thang’wa explained that branding would enhance public confidence, encourage cooperation, and prevent criminal impersonation of law enforcement officers.
