Gachagua calls on Azimio to focus on State House, not Eastlands Hustlers

Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has once again criticized the leadership of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition over the planned demonstrations in Nairobi and other cities on Tuesday.

Gachagua stated, during Labour Day celebrations in Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens, that Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his team should face President William Ruto at State House, instead of involving his supporters.

The Democratic Party stated that the opposition should also participate in the bipartisan talks convened by President Ruto via parliament.

“Stop disturbing con artists in Nairobi’s Eastlands and Southlands. If you have concerns, you should approach President Ruto at the State House. My office is open to visitors. You may also face Duale (CS, Defense) or Kindiki (CS, Interior) at DoD or Interior. “Stop using swindlers who are conducting their activities,” said Gachagua.

In addition, he warned the opposition that the government will do everything necessary to protect life and property during the protests.

“The Kenyan Constitution requires President Ruto to protect Kenyans and their property. He cannot disregard this obligation. Remember that the president will protect the lives and property of every Kenyan citizen.”

His remarks come one day before the planned Azimio demonstrations, which will protest, among other things, the high cost of living and government appointments.

Ruto called for bipartisan talks, and Azimio has accused the government of lacking goodwill.

The two sides of the legislature have maintained a hardline stance, with both sides demanding the removal of members from the parliamentary teams chosen to lead the negotiations.

Nearly a month ago, Raila and his supporters took to the streets for two consecutive weeks, where they witnessed clashes between protesters and police, destruction of property, and loss of life.

The demonstrations also disrupted normal operations in Nairobi, Kisumu, and other cities in the region of Nyanza where Raila enjoys support.
