Future of Jubilee in Azimio: Kioni’s Insights
Jeremiah Kioni, the challenged Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, has once again emphasized that the party previously in power will remain with Azimio, conclusively dispelling rumors about an intended departure from the opposition.
Over the recent weeks, Kioni has had meetings with several prominent figures from the Mt. Kenya area, such as Martha Karua, the leader of the NARC-Kenya party, Ndiritu Muriithi, the former Governor of Laikipia, and Peter Munya, the leader of the Party of National Unity. These interactions have led to speculations about a potential forthcoming departure.
In a conversation with GossipA2Z.com, Kioni challenged the rumors and highlighted that the discussions centered around the concerns of the Mt. Kenya area.
“We are not leaving Azimio but that doesn’t mean that we will not think about our people. You have seen (DAP-K leader Eugene) Wamalwa and (former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe) Oparanya trying to bring the Western people together. Also, (Azimio) Raila Odinga has in the past brought ODM leaders from the Luo region, so for us, we have to think about the interests of our people,” he stated.
The ex-Member of Parliament for Ndaragwa clarified that the gathering of Kamwene leaders functions as an avenue for leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to discuss and tackle different issues that impact their voters. “Kamwene” is a Kikuyu term that translates to “the proprietor”.
Kioni expressed disapproval of the Kenya Kwanza government’s strategy, noting that they were concentrating on particular elements within various economic sectors instead of embracing a comprehensive approach.
For example, Kioni raised concerns about the excessive emphasis of the present administration on providing subsidized fertilizer, while overlooking the requirements of other farmers.
“What about farmers who don’t grow maize?” he questioned.
Kioni verified that a larger number of individuals from the Mt. Kenya area would participate in the upcoming gatherings. She also pointed out that leaders from different regions who hold similar viewpoints were willing to engage in the conversations.

Regarding the potential formation of a political entity for the 2027 General Election, the ex-legislator neither affirmed nor denied it. They highlighted that their main focus in terms of politics remains on tackling the expenses associated with daily life.
Kioni further lambasted President William Ruto’s upcoming visit to the Mt Kenya area beginning this Saturday, alleging that he is diminishing the authority of the region’s leadership.
“You clearly see what happened to that region, this is a violation of the integrity of the Mt Kenya people. You only allow such people to camp in your region and be your spokesperson under slavery,” he lamented.
The internal conflicts within the Jubilee faction have considerably diminished the strength of the formerly predominant party, transforming it into a mere semblance of its previous stature.
The conflict between the group led by Kioni and the faction headed by Kanini Kega, a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), has been a significant focus of discussion during the mediation negotiations between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza.
Azimio politicians have expressed their dissatisfaction with Kega’s group’s efforts to gain control of the party, claiming that this action aims to weaken democratic processes.
The conflicts within the Jubilee party have also led to disagreements within Azimio, where certain members argue that the once-dominant party lacks sufficient political influence to be on the same level as ODM and Wiper.
Kileleshwa Ward representative Robert Alai has claimed that Azimio is not benefiting from either the Jubilee or NARC-Kenya parties.
