The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a drop in fuel prices for April 2025. This update is welcome news for motorists and households across Kenya.
New Fuel Prices Starting April 15
From Tuesday, April 15 to May 14, 2025, the following new prices will take effect:
- Super Petrol: Ksh174.63 (โ Ksh1.95)
- Diesel: Ksh164.86 (โ Ksh2.20)
- Kerosene: Ksh148.99 (โ Ksh2.40)
These prices apply to Nairobi. Prices may vary slightly in other towns:

- Diesel: Ksh161.62
- Kerosene: Ksh145.75
- Kisumu:
- Super Petrol: Ksh174.67
- Diesel: Ksh165.24
- Kerosene: Ksh149.42
Why the Prices Dropped
EPRA says the price changes are due to lower global fuel import costs. Hereโs a breakdown:
- Super Petrol: Down 4.89%
- Diesel: Down 6.45%
- Kerosene: Down 6.53%
This drop follows a global decrease in oil prices, with Murban crude oil falling from Ksh9,300 (USD71.86) per barrel on April 3 to Ksh8,390 (USD64.77) per barrel on April 10.
Taxes and Inflation Still Included
The new prices still include the 16% VAT, excise duty, and adjustments for inflation, as required by the Finance Act 2023 and Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024.
What This Means for Kenyans
The drop in fuel prices means:
- Cheaper transport for drivers and commuters
- Lower production costs for goods and services
- Possible decrease in food prices due to lower delivery costs
Conclusion
The April 2025 fuel price review brings relief to many Kenyans. With global oil prices going down and EPRA passing the savings to consumers, many hope this trend will continue in the coming months.
