Fresh Twist In Agnes Tirop Murder Case As Witness Raises Claims Of Infidelity In Court

The legal proceedings involving Ibrahim Rotich, a significant suspect in the case regarding the passing of renowned long-distance runner Agnes Tirop, have shifted direction following a court testimony alleging that their domestic discord stemmed from unfaithfulness.

During the court proceedings at Eldoret High Court, John Samoei, a witness, stated that the accused had confided in him, expressing suspicions about his wife engaging in an extramarital relationship with a member of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

He told the court that about two years earlier, Rotich contacted him, requesting an immediate gathering at their home in Iten.

Samoei reported that Rotich expressed a desire to resolve a family conflict regarding sensitive issues that couldn’t be talked about over the phone.

Samoei, an Eldoret town car dealer, testified in court that he has been acquainted with the accused for the last 11 years.

He stated that in 2015, the suspect introduced him to the deceased Tirop, asserting that the famous runner was his partner.

He continued by informing the court that Rotich had requested him to intervene and facilitate a conversation with Tirop, aiming to resolve their differences regarding the suspicions involving the military officer who was reportedly close to the deceased.

Samoei realized that Rotich was experiencing marital difficulties with Tirop after their encounter at a hotel located on the outskirts of Eldoret town, as per Samoei’s account.

He informed the court that he successfully organized a gathering between Rotich and Agnes at his residence in Kesses. During this meeting, they shared a meal and resolved their disagreements.

Rotich, who pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, is said to have committed the criminal offense on October 13, 2021.

The Kenyan international athlete died just a month after breaking the Women’s 10 km World Record in Germany.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned to December 15.
