Fresh Details Emerge in the Case of Kenyan Nurse Irene Gakwa Who Went Missing in the US

The Wyoming-based Torrington Police Department has initiated a fresh inquiry, currently examining the boyfriend of Irene Gakwa, a Kenyan Nurse who went missing two years ago.

As per the information provided, the Torrington Police Department has reopened the investigation that originated during the time the individual was in custody at Wyoming Medium Correctional Facility.

This follows the acknowledgment of three accusations by the suspect, which involve emptying Irene’s accounts and reaching the maximum limit on her credit card through over 80 transactions, amounting to nearly Ksh990,554 ( $7,000).

According to court records, the individual was sentenced to three to six years in prison for a series of 80 purchases, which consisted of items such as a shovel, a pair of boots, and pants.

Irene Wairimu Gakwa went missing from Wyoming in late February 2022.

Nevertheless, the accused refuted allegations connected to Irene’s vanishing. The individual maintained that she had entered a dimly lit vehicle with her possessions packed in two garbage bags and did not come back.

Despite these disclosures, the authorities have described the individual as unresponsive regarding the allegations of disappearance and initiated new inquiries into the matter.

Furthermore, following the issuance of the verdict in his case, the accused submitted an appeal application, which he subsequently retracted for reasons that remain undisclosed.

A surprising development in the situation discloses that the accused was moved from the Campbell County Detention Center to the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins in June 2023.

The State has not disclosed the details of his transfer, and the circumstances surrounding it remain unclear due to legal restrictions imposed by US law.

“Movement of inmates and the specific reasons (beyond intake) are not releasable due to safety and security reasons,” Stephanie Kiger, the Communications Lead for WDOC,” stated.

Nevertheless, numerous accounts suggest that the individual might have been targeted by other prisoners in jail, compelling authorities to isolate him.

The primary suspect in the case of Irene Gakwa, a Kenyan nurse who disappeared two years ago after relocating to Wyoming with her boyfriend in July 2021, is the boyfriend himself.
