Over the course of 2023, the grim reality of road fatalities in Kenya became increasingly evident, with the death toll rising alarmingly.
More than 4,000 Kenyans lost their lives on the roads between January and December 2023, marking a troubling trend in road safety.
Despite the surge in accidents during the festive season, the death toll was comparatively lower than the toll recorded by the same period in 2022, which stood at 4,352 by December 7, 2022.
Data provided by the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed a concerning pattern, indicating that pedestrians bear the brunt of road fatalities. In 2023 alone, over 1,506 pedestrian deaths had been reported.
