Former President Uhuru Kenyatta Attends Thanksgiving Mass in Meru(Photos)
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta attended a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church in Meru County on Sunday, March 23. He was joined by former Meru Governor Peter Munya and other local leaders for the special service.

Munya shared the news on X, writing, “I today joined the 4th President of Kenya, H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, and the faithful of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church in Meru County for a Thanksgiving Mass. Happy Sunday, friends.”
Uhuruโs First Public Appearance in Months
Uhuruโs attendance marked his first public appearance since January 29, when he was the chief guest at the East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit in Mombasa.
Uhuru Criticizes Over-Reliance on Foreign Aid
During the event, Uhuru criticized the Kenyan government for complaining about former U.S. President Donald Trumpโs decision to cut foreign aid. He urged leaders to focus on self-reliance rather than relying on financial support from other countries.
“I saw some people the other day crying that Trump has removed funding; that he is not giving us any more money. Why are you crying? It is not your government, not your country. He has no reason to give you anything,” he said.

Uhuru described the move as a wake-up call for Kenya, urging leaders to use the countryโs resources wisely instead of depending on foreign aid.
“This is a wake-up call for you to ask, โWhat are we going to do to help ourselves?โ Nobody will keep giving you money forever. It is time for us to use our resources for the right things,” he added.
Call for Self-Sufficiency
Uhuruโs message emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency and proper resource management. His remarks come amid ongoing debates about Kenyaโs economic strategies and dependence on external funding.
The former presidentโs speech resonated with many, sparking discussions on the need for sustainable solutions to economic challenges.
