Former Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga Claims Raid on Nairobi and Laikipia Homes

Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga claims that security officers raided his homes in Laikipia and Nairobi on Friday morning for unknown reasons.

However, the police have denied knowledge of the raids.

Mr. Njenga asserted that between 4 am and 6 am, armed men went to his homes in Lavington and Karen in Nairobi, Ol’Ng’arua, and Nyahururu’s Muthaiga in Laikipia County. He provided no supporting evidence.

Christopher Wafula, a laborer from Nyahururu town’s Muthaiga neighborhood, told GossipA2Z that he saw a contingent of armed men arrives in two Land Cruisers at approximately 6 a.m.

“They knocked on the door and announced that they were searching. I let them in, and a few minutes later, after searching the house, they left without uttering a word,” he said at the home of the late marathoner Samuel Kamau Wanjiru.

Another worker at the Ol’Ng’arua residence confirmed that armed men entered the residence but left after more than an hour of searching.

“They conducted a home invasion and demanded information about Mr. Njenga’s whereabouts. “However, neither we nor they knew where he was, so they left without saying a word,” said a worker who requested anonymity.

However, when contacted by GossipA2Z, Tom Okoth, commander of the Nyahururu Sub-County Police, denied knowledge of any raids in his jurisdiction.

“I am unaware of any raid on Mr. Njenga’s home or my officers’ involvement in the alleged incidents,” he told GossipA2Z over the phone.

Even though police officials denied knowledge of the raids, sources within the security services told GossipA2Z that Mr. Njenga was being sought due to reports that he intended to disrupt the Saturday funeral service of Mukami Kimathi, the widow of freedom fighter Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi.

“Police have received intelligence reports that Mr. Njenga planned to disrupt the burial,” the source told GossipA2Z. “They are searching for him for questioning.”

“Mr. Njenga was at the late Mukami’s home in Njabini on Thursday and promised to attend the funeral alongside opposition leader and former prime minister Raila Odinga, but there are reports that he planned to disrupt the service, which will be attended by President William Ruto,” the source said.

When contacted, Mr. Njenga stated, “My employees informed me of the raids.” They stated that they were searching for me.”
He added that he was also aware of an attempted raid on his Wanyororo home in Nakuru County. However, GossipA2Z was unable to independently confirm this.

Mr. Njenga believes that the alleged raids are related to the funeral that will be held in Njabini, Kinangop, on May 13th.

“These plans will prevent me from attending. I would like to inform whoever is responsible for the raids that I will be attending the funeral,” he stated over the phone.

He also confirmed that he visited Mukami Kimathi’s home on Thursday and informed the family that he and opposition leader Raila Odinga would attend the funeral together.

On Sunday, Mr. Odinga, the leader of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, confirmed that he would attend the funeral while paying tribute to the late Mukami at the Lee Funeral Home.

“I cannot miss Shujaa Mama Mukami wa Kimathi’s funeral. We were very close, and I will be in Njabini for her funeral,” said Mr. Odinga.

Also anticipated are President William Ruto, his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta, and Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

On Saturday, senior county and national leaders will also attend the state funeral.
