Former Mungiki Chief Maina Njenga Extends Backing to Ruto

On Monday, former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga disclosed his current allegiance to the government of President William Ruto.

Maina, a vehement opponent of the government, stated that he had accepted Ruto’s vision of a harmonious nation.

During an interview on Meru FM, the former Mungiki leader-turned-pastor implored Kenyans to allow Kenya Kwanza some time to fulfill their commitments.

โ€œLet us work hard and stop complaining every time. If we elected this government, let us give time to see the results,โ€ he stated.

Maina Njenga stated that although the current situation in Kenya was not favorable, it was anticipated that it would improve over time.

โ€œI did not support this government but now that it was chosen, we can not have people saying it’s not the right way,โ€ Njenga stated.

He urged unsuccessful candidates in the general election of 2022 to acknowledge that Kenya Kwanza was elected democratically.

Maina Njenga clarified his decision not to participate in any form of protest.

โ€œWe have agreed that we will preach peace. I want to see a peaceful country,โ€ he explained.

Later this year, Njenga and other opposition leaders were apprehended in connection with the demonstrations that erupted in Nairobi and other regions of the nation.

He clarified that arrests during demonstrations were commonplace and that, as such, he harbored no animosity towards the government.

Maina Njenga added that how he was allegedly abducted by police officers in July after the nationwide protests was not flawed.

โ€œThey came to my house and said they wanted to stay with me until the demos ended. They were good people and they would even prepare meat and chicken and share with me,โ€ he explained.

The former leader of Mungiki urged Kenyans to show deference to elected officials, stating that doing so was the sole means by which the nation could progress.

Ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was escorted by police officers at the Nakuru Law Courts on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
