Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Reveals the Truth Behind His Impeachment
On Sunday, January 5, at Tetu Catholic Church, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua opened up about the events leading to his impeachment, which saw Kithure Kindiki take his place.
Gachagua attributed his removal to his blunt honesty and refusal to endorse the government’s false promises. “In the first year, I believed we shared the same vision. But soon, I realized it was all lies. We’d promised to complete projects like the Ruring’u Stadium, but two years later, nothing has been done. No roads, no water, no medicine in hospitals—just endless lies to Kenyans,” he revealed.
He claimed that his candid advice to the president against making unfulfilled promises triggered plans for his ousting. “I told my boss we needed to stop lying to Kenyans, and that’s when the plot to impeach me started,” Gachagua added.
On October 1, 2024, Kibwezi West MP Eckomas Mwengi Mutuse filed an impeachment motion against Gachagua, listing 11 charges, including undermining the president’s authority, corruption, money laundering, and gross misconduct. The motion was passed by 282 MPs in the National Assembly.

During the church service, Gachagua commended Catholic bishops for boldly speaking the truth and holding the government accountable. “We thank our Bishops for being the voice of reason when others remain silent. The church is the nation’s conscience, and I urge you to continue standing for what is right,” he stated.
Since his removal, Gachagua has openly criticized the Kenya Kwanza government, calling for accountability on issues such as forced disappearances.
This has created tension between him and government allies, including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who accused Gachagua of orchestrating the disappearances to tarnish President Ruto’s reputation.
Gachagua has dismissed these claims, maintaining that his only agenda is to advocate for truth and justice for Kenyans.
