Fix your politics! Gachagua tells Kamba leaders
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Kamba leaders to improve their political strategies by moving away from the Opposition.
Addressing the crowd on Sunday at AIC in Zombe, Kitui East, Gachagua expressed that despite the community’s longstanding support for opposition leader Raila Odinga, it has not resulted in any tangible benefits.
The DP said Kamba leaders in the Opposition should respect the community by participating in development projects such as schools and churches.
“Fix your politics, you cannot follow a man who takes you nowhere forever. You have been following the Opposition leader (Raila Odinga) for many years but he humiliated your community leader (Kalonzo Musyoka) in the 2022 General Election by subjecting him to an interview for the running mate slot. You do not humiliate a whole community by interviewing their leader for a running mate position,” he said.
The DP said it was time for the Kamba community to wake up and stop being humiliated.
Gachagua said it was wrong for Raila to invite Kalonzo for a running mate position while he had already settled for somebody else.
“That humiliation that was given to this community in the last election was too much. How do you take a leader of an entire community to an interview to humiliate him in front of the whole world? He is somebody you know, he has been with you all his life and you know his credentials and he already knew the outcome,” he said.

“Let us respect communities, especially a community that has supported you for five elections. Accord it respect and participate in its development affairs.”
In the runup to the August 9, 2022 presidential elections, Raila settled on Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua as his running-mate.
Gachagua noted that despite the historical support of the Kamba community for the Opposition, the government is prepared to back the community’s initiatives for development.
He castigated the Opposition for nominating Kalonzo to chair the National Dialogue Committee and then rejected the outcome of the process.
“The other day Kalonzo was given the job of chairing the dialogue committee with National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah and they have refused the report to shame him,” he said.
Gachagua was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza (Ministry of EAC, ASALS and Regional Development), Principal Secretary Teresiah Mbaika (State Department of Devolution) and MPs Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South), Mejja MejjaDonk Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), Zaheer Jhanda (Nyaribari Chache), Kivai Kagesi (Vihiga), Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache), Members of the County Assembly led by area Ward Representative Laban Malinga, among other leaders.
