Five times unlucky? Raila speaks on losing elections
Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio party, has revealed his perspective on the outcomes of elections in which he has participated as a candidate.
Odinga stated on Tuesday, in response to a question posed during a meeting with youths who had encountered him, that he has only lost one of the five elections in which he has participated.
The young person inquired as to how the former prime minister felt about being “unlucky for the fifth time”
According to Raila, only four of the five elections he has run have been legitimate, and he only lost the first one because he was testing the waters.
He went on to say that he takes pride in never having lost an election because his victories are always fraudulent.
“I only ran five times, but seriously only four times. The real-time I lost is when I ran for the first time because I was just going to jog just to get to know and I came number three, but I’ve never lost,” he said.
“That is my pride and that is what gives me satisfaction and I can say it even when they are here that you know you didn’t win and they know they didn’t win.”
He claimed that former Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) member Hamida Kibwana disclosed to the Star that the 2007 election results announced in favor of former President Mwai Kibaki were not the actual results.
Even the results announced by former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chair Wafula Chebukati were not accurate, according to the leader of the opposition.

“You saw the commissioners testifying at the Bomas of Kenya saying the truth that we did not announce the real results. You saw Hamida Kibwana yesterday writing in the Star telling you that the results Samuel Kivuitu announced were not the results. Even the results Wafula Chebukati announced were not the results,” Raila said.
Hamida, who is presently a Senator nominee, revealed in an interview with the Star on Monday that the 2007 election results were grossly manipulated in favor of Kibaki.
The lawmaker disclosed that ECK chairman Samuel Kivuitu (deceased) was subdued and pressured to pronounce Kibaki the victor.
Raila added in his response that the Kenyan spirit has kept him continuing despite these developments.
“Kenyans deserve better and working this way, we will be able to strengthen democracy in Kenya and one day Kenyans will have free, fair, open, and transparent elections,” he said.
Raila has participated in five high state elections in Kenya, where he placed third in his first run for the nation’s highest office.
In 2007, the incumbent, Mwai Kibaki, was controversially declared the victor of a fiercely contested election.
After Raila challenged Kibaki’s victory, this led to the establishment of the grand coalition government, which in turn sparked post-election violence.
In the presidential elections of 2013, 2017, and 2022, Raila lost to the now-retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, respectively.
