During the burial of the late freedom fighter Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Tetu residence in Nyeri, former Cabinet Secretary for Defence Eugene Wamalwa made a witty remark about her.

Wamalwa, who addressed the mourners on Friday, September 22, in a rare display of admiration, remarked that the Vice President was well-dressed and looking fantastic in his seat.

Wamalwa claimed that Gachagua’s good features were a result of his recent handshake with his political adversary, the former prime minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga.

“I am so happy to see Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua dressed very smartly while seated right here. You know, Gachagua and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga recently shared greetings and a handshake,” Wamalwa joked.

The humorous speech elicited mirth and applause from the politically charged audience.

In addition, he asserted that the salutation between the two leaders was significant not only for the political class but for the entire nation.

Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa addresses mourners during the funeral of former MCA Stephen Maloba at Munjiti Primary School in Khwisero, Kakamega County.

“Previously, he told us that greeting Raila would lead to serious confusion in the life of anyone. In fact, he told us that a mere greeting with Raila would make one wear a pair of trousers on the head,” Wamalwa noted.

“However, I can see that he is just fine like Raila. In fact, he is more presentable since he greets Raila. We, therefore, need to avoid Rail-phobia and embrace each other.”

Wamalwa, who is also the Party Leader of the DAP, used the occasion to rally the Kenya Kwanza Coalition to support the ongoing talks, observing that the country can only prosper if peace prevails.

Wamalwa asserts that the nation is already on the path to reconciliation and development. Therefore, he urged Kenyans to concentrate on nation-building and fostering harmony.

“Let us work together as Kenyans. All we are seeking is to ensure that the prices of fuel, food, and other basic commodities are lowered,” Wamalwa assured.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the Leader of the Wiper Party Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa were among the senior leaders who attended the funeral of Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima.

Muthoni, who served as the personal assistant of the late freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi during the struggle for independence, passed away on September 5 at the age of 92.
