Inside Job Exposed: Kenyan Prison Wardens Convicted for Orchestrating Daring Terrorist Escape

Three senior prison officers in Kenya have been found guilty of helping convicted terrorists escape from one of the country’s most heavily guarded detention facilities, bringing to a close a case that has dragged on for more than four years.

In a statement released on Tuesday, January 13, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed that the officers were convicted on multiple charges, including neglect of official duty, aiding prisoners to escape, and organizing a meeting in support of a terrorist group.

Delivering his ruling at Kahawa Law Court, Senior Principal Magistrate Boaz Ombewa ruled that the jailbreak was not accidental but a carefully coordinated operation. He observed that the escape was “clearly well-planned and must have taken a considerable amount of time to execute.”

The convicted officers are Robert Kipkirui Soi, Kaikai Talengo Moses, and Willy Wambua, all members of the Kenya Prisons Service.

According to the prosecution, the officers played a direct role in facilitating the escape of three convicted terrorism suspects from GK Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, Kenya’s largest and most secure correctional facility. The escape occurred during the night of November 14, 2021, extending into the early hours of November 15, 2021.

Lead prosecutors James Machirah and Kennedy Amwayi presented evidence from fourteen witnesses, successfully proving beyond reasonable doubt that the officers either failed to act or deliberately assisted in the escape.

The escaped inmates were Musharaf Abdala, who operated under several aliases, Mohamed Ali Abikar, and Joseph Juma Odhiambo. At the time, all three were serving prison sentences for terrorism-related offences.

The court found that Soi and Talengo willfully neglected their duties, allowing the prisoners to walk out of lawful custody. Wambua, however, faced additional charges and was also convicted of organizing a meeting in support of a terrorist group.

The prosecution established that Wambua facilitated an unauthorized meeting between convicted terror inmates by deliberately moving one prisoner between high-security cells, an act that violated Kenya’s Prevention of Terrorism Act of 2012.

The escape sent shockwaves across Kenya and the wider region, triggering a nationwide manhunt. Security agencies arrested seven prison wardens in the immediate aftermath as investigations intensified.

Two days later, the fugitives were recaptured after members of the public reported suspicious individuals. Media reports at the time indicated that the escapees were attempting to flee the country.

The case is now set for a sentencing hearing on January 20, 2026, a decision that will be closely watched across Africa as governments grapple with insider threats within security institutions.

Uganda Pulls the Plug: Nationwide Internet Blackout Ordered Days Before Crucial General Election

Uganda has become the latest African country to announce a sweeping internet shutdown as the nation heads into a high-stakes General Election scheduled for Thursday, January 15. The decision, issued by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), orders a temporary suspension of public internet access across the country, raising serious concerns about digital freedoms and election transparency on the continent.

In an official directive sent to all licensed Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the UCC instructed providers to block access to most internet services beginning Tuesday, January 13 at 6:00pm, with no clear timeline for restoration. The shutdown covers widely used platforms such as social media, messaging applications, web browsing, video streaming, and personal email services.

The regulator explained that the move followed advice from the Inter-Agency Security Committee, framing the blackout as a preventive measure during the sensitive election period.

“This measure is necessary to mitigate the rapid spread of online misinformation, disinformation, electoral fraud, and related risks, as well as preventing incitement of violence that could affect public confidence and national security during the election period,” the letter read.

The directive also includes a ban on the sale and registration of new SIM cards, alongside the suspension of outbound data roaming services to countries within the One Network Area, a regional telecom framework used in parts of Africa.

Uganda’s leading opposition figure, Bobi Wine, strongly condemned the shutdown, describing it as a deliberate attempt to restrict civic participation and silence dissent just days before voters head to the polls.

“The criminal regime has announced an internet shutdown throughout Uganda, beginning at 6:00pm today, ahead of the election on Thursday,” he said.

While the blackout applies to the general public, the UCC outlined limited exemptions for what it described as critical national functions and essential services. These exclusions allow restricted access for network monitoring, infrastructure management, and public safety operations, though only through secured and authorized systems.

The development follows an earlier controversy involving the suspension of Starlink internet services in Uganda. Just a week earlier, Wine publicly appealed to SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk, claiming the shutdown had cut off an important alternative internet source ahead of the election.

“Elon Musk, here in Uganda, your Starlink has disabled citizens’ access to its internet just days to the January 15th election in which we seek to peacefully end Yoweri Museveni’s 40-year-old dictatorship,” he said.

“Please reactivate Starlink internet access in Uganda so that citizens can be able to communicate and stand a fair chance at shaping their destiny. Democracy dies in darkness,” he added.

Across Africa, election-period internet shutdowns have increasingly drawn criticism from civil society groups and digital rights advocates, who argue that such measures undermine democratic participation in an era where online platforms play a central role in political engagement, information sharing, and election monitoring.

African Elections Under the Spotlight as Zambia Turns to Kenya Ahead of 2026 Vote

Kenya has once again found itself at the centre of Africa’s electoral reform conversation after hosting a high-level delegation from Zambia’s Electoral Commission on a peer learning and benchmarking mission.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) welcomed officials from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Nairobi as the Southern African nation steps up preparations for its general election scheduled for August 2026. The visit underscores a growing trend across Africa, where electoral bodies are increasingly turning to regional cooperation to strengthen democratic systems and public trust in elections.

The Zambian delegation, led by ECZ commissioner Ndiyoi Mutiti, held extensive discussions with IEBC officials to study Kenya’s electoral management processes, technology-driven systems, and lessons learned from past elections. The engagement also created space for both commissions to exchange best practices in managing complex elections in diverse and fast-growing democracies.

Zambia’s interest in Kenya’s experience comes at a critical moment. The country recently amended its constitution and adopted a Mixed Member Proportional Representation (MMPR) system. This electoral model blends the First Past the Post (FPTP) system with Proportional Representation (PR) to ensure the inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in Parliament and local councils. As a result, Zambia is keen to refine its electoral design and operational capacity ahead of the upcoming polls.

A key focus of the benchmarking tour was electoral technology. Kenya’s IEBC operates a more integrated digital election framework, anchored by the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS). The system relies on secure biometric verification, using fingerprint scanners and facial recognition to authenticate voters on election day and curb electoral malpractice. Access to the KIEMS kits is tightly controlled through unique passwords held by presiding officers, while encrypted data storage and digital signatures safeguard the integrity of voter information.

In 2025, IEBC further upgraded its systems by introducing advanced biometric technology that aimed to incorporate iris-based voter verification. The kits, supplied by international technology firm Smartmatic, come with backup power solutions and have reportedly achieved a 99 per cent functionality rate during deployments.

By contrast, Zambia currently depends on fingerprint and photographic data for voter registration and verification and does not yet deploy election-day verification kits similar to Kenya’s. While mobile voter registration is ongoing in Zambia, the country is still developing systems to digitally identify deceased voters and track new registrations—areas that formed a central part of the learning exchange.

According to reports, the benchmarking exercise is part of ECZ’s broader strategy to modernise its electoral administration, improve operational efficiency, and adopt proven practices from across the continent. As African nations continue to reform their democratic processes, the Kenya–Zambia engagement highlights the importance of shared experience in shaping credible, inclusive, and transparent elections.

“Two Drug Barons in Cabinet?” Kenya Government Fires Back as Ex-Deputy President Sparks Explosive Drug Claims

Kenya’s government has firmly rejected explosive allegations suggesting that senior Cabinet members are involved in drug trafficking, dismissing the claims as politically driven and unsupported by evidence.

The controversy erupted after former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly alleged that two serving Cabinet Secretaries were deeply embedded in drug trafficking networks. His remarks came amid ongoing concerns about the rise of drug and substance abuse in Kenya, a problem that continues to affect many African countries, particularly urban youth.

Speaking in an interview last October, Gachagua accused the administration of President William Ruto of lacking genuine commitment to addressing the drug crisis. He argued that the appointment of individuals he claimed were linked to drug trafficking contradicted the government’s stated anti-drug agenda.

“Drug and substance abuse are back in the country. I knew a long time ago that the government was not committed to ending this drug abuse menace in this region,” Gachagua stated.

He went further to accuse President Ruto of appointing two Cabinet Secretaries allegedly tied to the illegal drug trade, claiming the situation made Kenya globally unique.

However, Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly pushed back against the accusations. Speaking on Monday, January 12, during an interview on Citizen TV, Murkomen dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated, insisting that they lacked any factual foundation.

“There is a clear and thorough process of vetting all public servants, including Cabinet Secretaries. If there had been even an iota of proof supporting such allegations, none of us would be holding public office today,” he said.

Murkomen emphasized that Kenya follows strict constitutional and parliamentary vetting procedures before appointing top government officials, noting that no credible evidence had ever been presented against any Cabinet member regarding drug trafficking.

The Interior CS also questioned Gachagua’s credibility on the issue, arguing that the former Deputy President lacked the moral authority to lecture the country on drug and alcohol abuse. According to Murkomen, Gachagua’s record while in office did not reflect effective leadership on the matter.

“When it comes to the discussion on drugs and alcohol abuse, the last person who should give us a lecture is the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua because his record is known to be dismal,” Murkomen revealed.

He went on to accuse the former DP of incompetence during his time in government, suggesting that his public attacks were an attempt to deflect from his own shortcomings.

“The worst part of him is that I had never seen a more incompetent public servant who understood no single subject in government operations. The reason you see the former Deputy President ranting all the time is that he is trying to cover his incompetence,” he added.

Murkomen concluded by warning political leaders against making unverified accusations, cautioning that such statements could erode public confidence in government institutions and weaken ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse in Kenya — a challenge shared by many African nations striving to protect their societies from the growing drug menace.

Kenyan Court Freezes Use of Private Lawyers by Government, Sparks Nationwide Legal Storm

A major legal shake-up is unfolding in Kenya after the High Court issued a temporary order stopping all public institutions from hiring private law firms, a decision that could redefine how governments across Africa manage legal services and public spending.

The ruling was delivered by the High Court sitting in Nakuru on Monday, January 12, following a petition filed by activists Okiya Omtatah Okoiti and Dr. Magare Gikenyi J. Benjamin. The two argued that it is unconstitutional for government institutions to spend public funds on private advocates while already employing qualified public legal officers.

According to the petitioners, the routine outsourcing of legal work to private law firms places an unnecessary burden on taxpayers and undermines constitutional principles of accountability, transparency, and prudent use of public resources.

The court certified the matter as urgent and issued conservatory orders barring ministries, counties, parastatals, and other public offices from engaging external lawyers until the case is fully heard and determined. In addition, the court directed the Controller of Budget and other relevant public officials not to approve or process payments related to private legal services during this period.

In its ruling, the court noted that the case raises serious constitutional questions, particularly on whether hiring private advocates violates principles of fairness, competitiveness, and cost-effectiveness as required under Kenya’s Constitution when managing public finances.

The petition names more than 70 respondents, including the Attorney General, the Council of Governors, all county governments, and several national agencies. The Office of the Auditor General, Office of the Controller of Budget, and Katiba Institute were listed as interested parties.

The petitioners further asked the court to interpret Article 156(7) of the Constitution, arguing that it does not permit government agencies to outsource legal representation. They maintain that the Attorney General, State Counsels, and County Attorneys are adequately equipped to handle all legal matters on behalf of public institutions.

If the court ultimately upholds the order, it could bring an abrupt end to long-standing arrangements between government bodies and private law firms, potentially disrupting ongoing litigation and altering the legal services market. Some critics warn that complex cases requiring specialised expertise could be delayed.

The decision has already triggered a strong reaction from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which condemned the ruling and warned of serious economic consequences for the legal profession.

Reacting to the decision, LSK President Faith Odhiambo said the ruling was harmful to advocates who depend on public sector briefs for their livelihoods.

“Who is Ruto?”: IShowSpeed Ignites Political, Digital and Street Chaos in Kenya

“We are shocked by this order, which deprives advocates across the country of the opportunity to serve the public,” Odhiambo exclaimed. “The legal profession is an essential part of the country’s economic ecosystem, and this decision threatens to destabilise it.”

She argued that existing laws, including the Office of the Attorney General Act and the Office of the County Attorney Act, allow public institutions to hire private lawyers when necessary, provided procurement rules and fee regulations are followed.

The LSK has announced plans to challenge the ruling, warning that it could create uncertainty in public service delivery and limit access to specialised legal expertise.

The case is scheduled to return to court on January 30, 2026, when all parties will present their arguments in an inter partes hearing, a session that could have far-reaching implications not just for Kenya, but for how African governments balance public accountability and professional services.

“Who is Ruto?”: IShowSpeed Ignites Political, Digital and Street Chaos in Kenya

Kenya was thrust into the global spotlight after American streaming superstar iShowSpeed landed in the East African nation, triggering scenes of excitement rarely witnessed for a digital creator. From government offices to social media timelines, his arrival sent shockwaves across the country, underscoring the growing influence of online creators in shaping global tourism, youth culture, and digital attention.

The streamer, whose real name is Darren Watkins, touched down on Sunday morning, instantly igniting massive online buzz. Kenya’s tourism authorities swiftly leaned into the moment, rolling out promotional messages aimed at showcasing the country to Speed’s millions of followers worldwide. It was a clear sign that African nations are increasingly recognizing the power of internet culture as a gateway to global visibility.

However, the frenzy began even before Speed arrived. Online speculation about his itinerary flooded social platforms, fuelled by exaggerated claims and viral narratives from local creators eager to associate themselves with the moment. Once he landed, anticipation spilled into the streets of Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, where thousands of fans gathered around key landmarks, bringing traffic to a standstill and forcing security teams into crowd-control mode.

Speed’s appearance atop a moving SUV turned the city centre into a sea of raised phones, chants, and raw emotion. Fans screamed, cried, and recorded relentlessly as the streamer embraced the chaos with his trademark energy. Known for feeding off live crowds, he effortlessly commanded attention, transforming public spaces into viral moments within seconds.

Throughout the day, Speed toured several iconic locations, including Nairobi National Park, where he adopted and named a rhinoceros “Rhynaldo” — a nod to football legend Cristiano Ronaldo. He also immersed himself in everyday Kenyan experiences, attempting to cook traditional foods like ugali and chapati, interacting with students, jamming to popular urban music, and riding in the country’s famously vibrant public transport.

From city rooftops, Speed livestreamed breathtaking skyline views while achieving a personal milestone — crossing 48 million YouTube subscribers.

“We are about to hit 47.9 million. I don’t think you understand how crazy that is. No other country so far in this tour has been able to gain this amount of subs in one stream. Kenya is so far number one,” he said on his stream.

At peak moments, the livestream attracted over 200,000 live viewers, setting a national digital record and reaffirming Africa’s growing relevance in global online culture. Viewers tuned in from across the continent and beyond as Speed sprinted through packed schedules — from sports interactions to housing projects and spontaneous fan encounters.

As the chat section exploded with political chants unfamiliar to him, Speed paused mid-stream to ask, “Who is Ruto?”, a moment that quickly went viral and highlighted the unpredictability of live global broadcasts.

After nearly eight hours of relentless streaming, Speed quietly exited the city, avoiding further crowd surges. By then, the impact was undeniable. His Kenyan stop on the “Speed Does Africa” tour has already become the most-watched leg of the journey, amassing over 9 million views and counting.

As Speed prepares to visit another African country, Kenya’s role in his record-breaking run stands as proof that Africa is no longer just a destination — it is a driving force in global digital culture.

Kenya’s Opposition Giant ODM Signals Possible Alliance With Ruto Ahead of Next Elections

Kenya’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), one of the country’s most influential opposition parties, has announced plans to enter structured political negotiations with other parties — including the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) — as part of preparations for the next general election.

The decision was reached on Monday, January 12, after a high-level meeting of the ODM Central Committee held in Kilifi County, Kenya. During the meeting, senior party officials assessed the party’s political standing, organisational strength, and long-term electoral strategy within Kenya’s rapidly shifting political environment.

Speaking on behalf of the Central Committee, Oburu Oginga said the party had resolved to actively pursue pre-election alliances as a strategic move to strengthen ODM’s national influence. The leadership believes that structured cooperation with other political formations could play a critical role in shaping Kenya’s next political chapter.

In a significant development, the committee formally authorised the ODM Party Leader to begin talks with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) — a notable move considering the intense rivalry between the two parties in recent election cycles.

“The Committee meeting expressed the intention to initiate structured negotiations with different political formations, beginning with the United Democratic Alliance. To this end, we have mandated the Party Leader to commence this process,” the statement read.

According to the party, the planned discussions will be carefully organised and guided by shared national interests rather than short-term political convenience. ODM stressed that any engagement would reflect the realities of Kenya’s evolving political landscape.

At the same time, the party announced it would begin nationwide consultations with its members to gather grassroots views before making any final political realignments. These consultations are expected to shape ODM’s ultimate position and will later be presented for approval at a National Delegates Convention, the party’s highest decision-making forum.

Beyond alliance talks, the Central Committee also addressed the implementation of ODM’s 10-Point Agenda, particularly the issue of compensating victims of public protests. Following a court ruling that declared a previously proposed compensation panel unlawful, the party resolved that any future compensation efforts should be handled through the constitutionally recognised Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

During a press briefing, questions arose over the absence of key party figures at the meeting. Oburu Oginga dismissed speculation of internal rifts, explaining that ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Otsotsi had sent apologies due to logistical challenges.

Sifuna, known nationally for his outspoken criticism of the current Kenyan government, had previously declared he would rather leave the party than engage politically with President William Ruto. However, his tone reportedly softened following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, after which he indicated a willingness to prioritise party unity and dialogue.

The developments signal a potentially transformative period in Kenyan politics, with possible ripple effects across the wider African political landscape where coalition-building is increasingly shaping governance and elections.

Donald Trump Accused of Rape in Newly Released Epstein Files; DOJ Calls Claims ‘Untrue and Sensationalist’

In a major move that has captured international attention, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has released nearly 30,000 additional pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender. This represents the largest disclosure in the long-running investigation into Epstein, whose ties to powerful figures worldwide have long fueled public fascination.

The newly released documents include multiple references to former US President Donald Trump, notably showing that Trump flew on Epstein’s private jet several times during the 1990s. An internal email from a DOJ prosecutor lists at least eight flights Trump took on Epstein’s jet between 1993 and 1996. While these records reveal the extent of Trump’s association with Epstein, experts note that travel logs and social connections alone do not constitute evidence of criminal activity.

The DOJ emphasized that some of the documents contain “untrue and sensationalist claims” about Trump that were submitted to the FBI shortly before the 2020 election. The department described these allegations as lacking any credible basis. “To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponised against President Trump already,” the DOJ said. Nevertheless, the records were released in the interest of transparency, with measures in place to protect Epstein’s victims.

Among the files is an FBI intake report from October 27, 2020, detailing a tip from a former limousine driver. The report recounts a disturbing phone conversation allegedly involving Trump and Epstein in 1995. According to the document, a woman who reportedly contacted police about the incident was later found dead in January 2000 by suicide. Authorities have heavily redacted these details and made no determinations about their accuracy.

Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing connected to Epstein, calling recent scrutiny a Democratic “distraction” and stating that he “cut ties” with Epstein long before the pedophile’s arrest in 2019.

The disclosure has reignited debates over government transparency, particularly as Democrats pressure the DOJ to release more files. Advocates of open records argue that the public has a right to see these documents, even if they contain unverified claims. The release follows criticism of a previous batch of Epstein files, which were temporarily removed from the DOJ website over concerns about protecting victims’ identities, before being restored after confirming no victims were shown in the disputed materials.

The massive trove of documents is now publicly accessible on the DOJ website, providing a rare window into Epstein’s network and the enduring global fascination with one of the most infamous criminal cases of recent decades.

Martha Karua Warns: Ruto’s Government on Borrowed Time After Raila Odinga’s Death

Kenya’s political landscape could be facing major turbulence following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, according to People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua. Speaking to TV47 on December 23, Karua warned that President William Ruto’s administration is at risk of instability without Odinga’s political influence.

“If there is someone heavily bereaved politically, it is Ruto. Without Baba’s presence, he will not get unified support. Even now, he is not so sure that he can make it another year,” Karua said, referring to Odinga by his widely recognized nickname, Baba.

Karua emphasized that Odinga’s absence will have significant implications for the upcoming 2027 General Elections, hinting that the President’s political trajectory was closely tied to his alignment with Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. According to her, potential shifts within ODM could disadvantage Ruto, especially given the ongoing divisions within the party regarding its relationship with the government.

The PLP leader also disclosed her final conversation with Odinga before his death. She said the former Prime Minister admitted feeling uneasy about his ties with Ruto’s administration. “I told him I don’t want an answer today, I’m leaving it with you to think, but he did say he was very uncomfortable,” Karua recalled. She added that she had encouraged Odinga to consider stepping away from the government, even if it meant its collapse.

Beyond electoral predictions, Karua accused President Ruto of exhibiting dictatorial tendencies and criticized the administration for allegedly failing to protect citizens detained in neighbouring countries. She also pointed to the November by-elections as a wake-up call for opposition parties, insisting that these events underscore the need for vigilance in challenging the ruling government.

Karua concluded her interview with a bold statement, asserting that Ruto is likely to serve only one term as president, signaling a potentially dramatic shift in Kenya’s political dynamics in the coming years.

Strange Deaths in Nairobi’s Kilimani in 2025 Where Victims Fell Off High-Rise Buildings

Once celebrated as a symbol of Nairobi’s growing middle-class prosperity, the leafy suburb of Kilimani has, in recent months, gained an ominous reputation. Once known for its bustling offices and trendy apartments, the area is now making headlines for a string of fatal falls from its towering buildings.

In 2025 alone, six residents have tragically plunged to their deaths from Kilimani’s high-rise apartments. The frequency and circumstances of these incidents have left the city asking: Are these simply tragic accidents, or is something more sinister at work?

One of the most shocking cases occurred on November 30, when 25-year-old Festus Lee Oromo fell from the 14th floor of Heartland Apartments on Kindaruma Road. Oromo had checked into an Airbnb with 48-year-old Lilian Moraa Mbeki, whom he met on Tinder. CCTV footage captured a scuffle between the two shortly before his fall. Both Mbeki and a man named Patrick Jagongo were arrested while authorities investigated whether Oromo fell by accident or was pushed. Police noted that the apartment was in disarray, hinting at a violent struggle.

Just weeks later, on December 23, Evans Githua, a 51-year-old CEO of a Nairobi-based ICT firm, fell from the 14th floor of Alba Apartments along Kasuku Road. Githua had checked into the apartment the previous night. Police discovered the apartment locked from the inside, with evidence suggesting self-harm: bloodstains, a used scalpel, alcohol, and medications. Investigators believe he attempted to harm himself before the fatal fall. Police are treating the death as a suspected suicide, pending post-mortem results.

In a separate tragedy, 55-year-old domestic worker Zeituni Kavayo, also known as ‘Mama Fua,’ died on September 18 after falling from the fifth floor of an apartment on Mpunga Road. Kavayo, accused by her employer of theft, was seen in amateur footage moving across balconies before her fatal plunge. Several members of her employer’s household were arrested in connection with the death. The Cabinet Secretary for Labour, Alfred Mutua, condemned the incident, saying:

“The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has received with deep shock and sadness the tragic news of the sudden death of Kavayo, a domestic worker in Nairobi, reportedly as a result of harassment and abuse by her employer, while carrying out duties in Kilimani, Nairobi. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Zeituni.”

Kavayo’s death ignited protests demanding better protection for domestic workers, highlighting the vulnerabilities of low-wage laborers in the city.

Beyond these fatal falls, Kilimani has recently seen homicides, violent disputes, and other disturbing incidents, raising questions about the safety of its high-rise living. Some fear that the booming short-stay rental market is masking violent encounters, while others speak of a “neighbourhood of shadows.” As 2025 closes, residents of Kilimani’s soaring apartments are watching their balconies with a new sense of fear, unsure what the next tragedy might bring.
