Father of Mukumu Girls Student Commits Suicide

On Sunday evening, a police officer who was the father of one of the Mukumu Girls’food’ poisoning victims shot himself in his home at the Siala Kaduol Police Station in Gem, Siaya County.
Officer Maurice Tilson Chisihavi committed suicide with his firearm while on duty.

Commander of Gem Sub County Police, Cecilia Kemboi, confirmed the incident.
“He shot himself in the chin, and the bullet exited the top of his head, instantly killing him,” Kemboi stated.
Kemboi stated that the deceased may have been in distress before his passing.
Kemboi stated, “He is an abstainer, and we believe he could only commit suicide if he was distressed.”
The head of the Sub-County Police also noted that the deceased was impacted when the news of food poisoning at Mukumu Girls in Kakamega broke.
“His daughter is one of the victims of the food poisoning incident at Mukumu Girls High School. In recent days, this had a significant impact on him, Kemboi told the Star.
Kemboi said his daughter discharged from a Kisumu hospital and returned to Kakamega.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the true motivation behind the alleged suicide.
